Thur»., Sept. 9. 1976 SANDY (Ore.) POST - 13 Nell's notes Poor turnout noted In election by Nell Howe Sorry about last week, but just didn't get home in time to take care of it Then the elec tion was the next day and that was a long day. I don't mean to criticize people, but out of 1,311 registered voters, 190 showed up to vote That doesn’t speak to well of the people up in this area (Tut of that many, Hoodland residents did pass the parks and libraries levy But we had little chance of over throwing Oswego and Milwaukie's votes That is, unless everyone had turned out to vote Soooo, there is another election on Sept. 21, and I do hope we have a good showing then I don’t care how you vote just so you vote. I ’m a week late congratulating Tulia and Clyde Phelps on their 25th Wedding Anniversary The same day it was also Clydes’ birth day and daughter - Cindy’s birthday. In stitu te d irector John Hudson said that "Instructors are selected not only for their subject expertise but also for the professional management skills which they utilize daily as s u c c e s s fu l p r a c t i c in g managers in private and public organizations " Cuprisin is the Deputy Chief of the Portland office of the Federal Aviation Authority and has done extensive management training at the FA A Academy With multiple sections of over 30 different courses scheduled for fall term, the goal of the Managem ent Developm ent Institute is to develop prac ticing. professional managers who are capable of dealing with contemporary management problems The institute ac complishes this through an integrated program of real life situations and theory " T o d a y 's s u c c e s s fu l manager must be a blend of human and technical com petencies. All of a sudden the plant has one spider star ted Do you suppose it is because I trimmed the dead ones off, with the manicuring scissors, like the Sunday newspaper said? word to spread around Everyone that has my problem with spider plants would be trimming them all over the place, and that just can’t be it. Anyhow it is interesting If Portland General Electric raises their rates and everyone takes out their electric heat and cuts down on their electrical use, how do they gain? Guess I am just dense It seems to me that they would make more by having a small raise, and retaining all their customers continuing to use just as much electricity. A blue award went to Virginia Cleary, in the senior sub-novice obedience class business in Portland, if I kept the quality, and the quantity, and the price right, that I did more business by volume then if I had raised the prices and only had a few customers. I could be wrong. There are just a lot of ways one can sit back and see where the big businesses, the unions, the government, etc., could change their ways for the better Why can't they see it? Everyone seems to be in terested in the almighty dollar and not the results Too bad. Wouldn’t it be nice if one of us just plain folk could walk into Washington, D C . and be president for a couple of days, then spend a couple of days in Congress just to get them all on the right track? Guess the old idea of government by the people and for the people fell by the wayside someplace. A good example is the Mt. Hood Plan that has been up for battle. The original plan was accepted by the commissioners and the Mountain was complimented on the fine job. Now they come up with 44 amendments that are most asinine in a bigger book than the original plan It just seems that the people like live up here should have the say on what they would like to have, instead of three men who spend little or no time on the mountain planning our life for us. Why in the world do they want to retain the two lane highway as it is and put in three Lanes at the Welches Road then back to two.
