They get Colognes in a little skull practice before going in as referees at the tournament. 12102 NE d it o « 11345 SW Canyon oring wrestling Safeway s (the ) place to b u y M eat LING—Kids in the grade BORING—Kids school may have kept out of mischief on recent weekends but not all kept out of trouble this past Saturday Several found themselves in trouble during the First Annual Kid Wrestling Tournament as they tangled with their peers in the climax of four Saturdays of wrestling in the school gym Bui any trouble on the mat was not serious, as for the most part they were evenly matched, and the event wound up in good humor despite the old college try the proceedings required Principal David Gillespie explained that the program was designed to provide a Saturday activity for boys in a neighborhood largely void of weekend attractions Actually, it was not that they are mischief-prone, they relish an activity they can get a handle on. The 450 or so boys who p in the the four four p a a rtic rtic ip ip a a te te d d in Saturday program found plenty of handles- on one another "We also sought to acquaint them w ith w restling by providing effective instruction, with the hope of generating an interest that will carry over into high school," Gillespie said The instructors bore credentials: They were from Sandy High School wrestling teams. " It helped the high school boys, too.,' Gillespie said, "in that by having to explain the art of wrestling they formed a clearer idea of the sport ” For (he tournament, though, they had a different role: They were referees, working under direction of their Sandy High School coach, Ron Calhoun Some 110 Boring school boys engaged in 350 matches in the tournam ent, which drew contestants from first through eighth grades ” It's been true for years and years.
