Lunner points out. Fluorescent tubes last for many years, a factor to keep in mind when comparing their cost with the shorter-life regular light bulbs Prices of incandescent light bulbs vary. The least expensive "standard bulb” is inside- frosted to soften its light Even more diffusion of light is provided w ith a "soft white" bulb that has a silica coating on the inside, but it gives off slightly less light than a standard bulb The amount of light w ill be stated in terms of "lum ens" on the bulb or the package, along w ith the number of hours the bulb w ill last "Soft-white plus" bulbs last 50 to loo per cent longer than standard bulbs, but cost more too. And there are the "long life " bulbs that have about three limes longer life than the standard bulb, but the light output or "lum en count” is less. The most expensive of the incandescent bulbs are krypton filled bulbs, which cost about double the price of standard bulbs They do have longer life and are more ef ficient A new program designed to encourage excellence in production as w ell as awareness of what consumers look lor in meal is available this year to 4-H beef, sheep and swine producers, reports T.D.
