Market Portland, Ore. 97201 222 4301 o oo Sportsmen who own 1975 pickup trucks and passenger cars equipped with catalytic converters should be aware that the converters pose a potential fire threat and avoid driving through high grass and brush. Temperatures inside the converters are said to read 1,200 to 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit, twice the tern perature of regular exhaust systems. Since converters are slow to cool, such converters can and have started grass and brush fires — an unpleasant interruption to a hunting trip at best. Vehicles under the 6,000 pounds gross vehicular weight rating (GVW R) usually have converters This includes most half-ton pickups, passenger cars, and some popular off road vehicles NEED A SITTER? Sportsmen are urged by the Department nt Fish and Wildlife to check whether their 1975 vehicle has a catalytic converter and, if so, care should be taken to avoid using the vehicle off the road in dry grass or brush A fire extinguisher in the cab is an excellent idea which could prevent the spread of a grass fire or even prevent extensive damage to the vehicle ThornWrg Const Whistle Stop Barlow Trail D a rr» Multorpor HoodlandTrftwy Gios Ford Bowman's Brtwd Garage Cat's Meow Loglxxige Carlson Chev ZigZag Inn In d ivid u al High w L 27 • 20 18 20 16 20 18 19 17 184 174 18 18 18 18 17 19 144 214 14 22 10 26 Scores: Glenda Thornberg 599 Team High Scores: Game, W histle Stop 766; Series, Whistle Stop 2179.
