Still, the park was silent
Green picnic tables stood about
in em barrassed nakedness.
Even litte r cans were empty
Along the rive r's edge large
dark sw arm s of tadpoles

between

rocks—putting people present
in an undisputed m inority.
Downstream a 15-inch trout
finally gave in to one of the
Homo sapiens. Tony Webb of
Damascus.

fortune with their rods and
reels.
“ W e're p robably com ing
back again tomorrow though,"
announced young Clayton wit’h
umblemished enthusiasm.
Over at Rosylyn Lake, which
is even a closer drive from
Sandy, the usual sunny day
Tadpoles outnumbered the
peopleat Dodge Park Tuesday.
After endless days of rain,
the September sun sent long
shadows across the restfull
park and the Sandy R iv e r
giggled into w elcome warm air
But it all came too late:
Labor Day was washed away
and most school had started. A
few souls, however, were
taking advantage of one of our
area's noted county-operated
parks located approximately
six miles from Sandy.
A foursom e of F risb ee
throwers, a few fish catchers
and a couple in a yellow raft
exposed their epidermis to the
rare Oregon rays
potato chip munchers and soda
pop swallowers were just as
sparse Beach blankets and
transistor radios were truant
An abandoned canoe and
peopleless firepits cast a ghost
town solemnity over the PGE
owned park.
So, if you w ouldn’ t m ind
being a m in o rity
in a
m icrocosm of em barrassed
picnic tables and solitudinal
sw ing sets, these weekday
locales might be for you
