I was up early Saturday and spent the morning cleaning the truck and trailer The day turned out hot and sunny, so I went down to the beach to sun and w atch the surfers and bikini-clad bathers Seems as though California campgrounds arc so crowded, reservations are necessary way in advance for weekend use. so 1 had to move to a no- hookup s p it for a couple of days (How come the Mt. Hood area has terminated at least thr«re campgrounds that I know of in the local forest service jurisdiction? The demand is growing ) Monday up early and off at 8:30 a m to miss the Los Angeles business tra ffic as 1 drove toward the megalopolis and smog T hrough the Angeles National Forest, a clim b over Tejon Pass took me 5,000 feet high and into the long, monotonous desert freeway drive of Highway 1-5. Red Cross collecting books A drive enlisting youth in Oregon T ra il chapter's five counties in the 1975 7« ob servance of the 200th Anniversary of the American Kevolution is being undertaken by the Red Crons F irst step is the donation and collection of book« May 12-30 in all schools in the five counties as part of Bed Cross Youth Services Programs This is just one of the many activities that youth are un dertaking during the country's bicentennial year All kinds of books are being collected including paper backs, comics and books for adult reading The hooks w ill be repaired and re conditioned by Bed Cross Youth volunteers this summer D uring the spring and summer of '76 the books w ill be distributed to senior citizen centers with books for younger readers going to m ig ran t camps and youth serving agencies in the community in an effort to reach youth who do not have books available to them The purpose of the project is to motivate youth to read all categories of bixiks Prices Effective May 21 thru 27 at Safeway in Gresham BEL-AIR Luscious, S w eet, R ed-ripe Beauties For the Holiday!
