Amazonian» and the Nagas In science Miss Richard's students are working on individual projects dealing with anim als and th e ir habitats. M rs Moore reports that Missy Harmoned moved to Oregon City recently, and that Tim Sullivan moved here from Rockwood. Mrs Fleck's First Grade F IF T H GRADE Newly elected president of Mrs Kotzian's fifth grade is Marvin Schaffer, with Ron Foster serving as vice- president Tom Bean is now secretary, D ale Bennet is treasurer and Curtis Moody is news reporter The class is busy making reports on the central states In the U S . In health Mrs Kot zian's class Is studying the bones and muscles in the body Mrs Rousett's class recently saw a film in math called "Donald Duck in Math Magic Land." The senses of taste and smell are being studied in Ms Wavra's room for health class The students are doing ex periments with food to see how the two senses re la te . In science they are studying the atom and in math the boys and girls are busy doing division problems The students are also participating in the Friday m ini-courses and enjoying doing the different things of fered SIXTH GRADE Rita Carpenter is a new sixth grade student, moving here from the Los Angeles area Rita enjoyed seeing her first real snow last week Rita, who Joins the students in M r Thomas' room, also has a brother in eighth grade and a sister in the fourth Miss Bosche s class has Just been Joined by Jim Layton, who » moved here from Brightwood J im 's fa v o rite a c tiv ity is riding Working hard on book con tracts from Mrs Klepa room are: Karen Clayton, Wendy Rader, Carrie Brewster, Joyce Hines, Julie Anderson and Jeff Kersting. They work on ac tivities related to their books and really get to know the ch a ra c te rs ' roles and p e r sonalities Certificates of participation from the Oregon State Elks Association w ere received recently by Nancy Rohweder, Monty Sanders, Jeff Yoder, Mike Zogg, Randy Ambrose and Danlse Buswell These students received the c e r tificates for their participation in the Elks basketball free throw contest Jeff Bowman recen tly donated some March of Dimes t bookmarks to the Intermediate School Library We hope the students will use them well Thank you, Jeff. U P P E R B U ILD IN G NEWS Sports events are keeping many students busy now, in cluding the building of snow men last week Jan 18 the wrestling teams will have a match against Molalla here at Sandy, starting time is 3:30 p m Jan. 18 the swim team has a meet scheduled at Lynch Terrace, starting at 4 p m Jan. 17 basketball teams travel to Woodburn for a 3:30 p.m. game Both basketball and wrestling programs will be busy on Jan. 21, with the basketball teams traveling to Welches for a 3:49 p.m. game, and the wrestlers going against Silverton, here at Sandy at 3:30 p.m The public is welcome to all the school sporting events. The girls' P .E . program has been busy doing tumbling and gymnastics, and they are now starting basics on apparatus, such as the balance beam, vaulting box, and horizontal bar On Thursday, Jan. 18, Miss Evans from Sandy High School is coming with three of her gym nastic students to demonstrate for the seventh and eighth grades some of the skills they are teaching and what their program in gym nastics offers. We are sure there could not be a prouder father Tuesday, along with a scheduled facu lty m eeting, there was a surprise baby shower for Gary with an ap propriately decorated cake for refreshments Of course Mrs Albers and young Robert were invited guests SANDY CLASSIFIED PERSONNEL NEWS Dec 19 was the Christmas Poly Double Knit party for the Classified per sonnel in the Home Ec Room of the n«><» Upper Grade Building Forty to SO were in attendance. Our clam had the op- portimity of seeing one, as well as going into a vault and learning where all the money is kept We all felt the visit to the Sandy Bank was interesting and we want to thank the bank president for taking us through Smokey the Bear has been teaching us a lot of things this week about fire prevention. We all sent away for our Oregon Green Guard badge and they cam e in the m a il today. (Monday). We want to wear our badges to remind us to be careful with fire. Last Wednesday we made snowflakes for the window, and guess w hat! It brought the snow that day and the next!
