Schroeder has been named to the committee which manages Smokey the Bear's career. Schroeder, a member of the National Association of State Forester (NASF) was named to the prestigious Cooperative Forest F ire Prevention Committee which administers Smokey's business affaira and directs his forest fire prevention program Smokey's managers are a co m m ittee made up of representatives of NASF, the U S . Forest Service and the National Advertising Council. They ad m in is te r Sm okey’s "patent," granting approval for use of thia name and images on such com m ercial en terprises a t Smokey t-ahirta, piggy banks and atuffed toy». Smokey made aome 8380,000 in royalties last year. Thia money Is used to finance the Smokey Bear forest fire prevention campaign As a member of the committee, Schroeder w ill approve Smokey’s campaign for the 1975 fires season, including sds, film s and educational materials. One of the biggest questions before the committee thia year will be what to do with the real Smokey.
