UGN drive exceeds goal
United Good Neighbors exceeded its 1974
goal with a final total of 87,784,806 as the
campaign ended Thursday.
Campaign Chairman William H. Hunt,
in an emotion-charged farewell, told a
Victory Dinner crowd Thursday night that
the fund drive “has been the greatest
experience in my life.” Hunt retired in
July as chairman of the board
Louisiana Pacific.
"Visiting these agencies that we raise
money for and seeing the good work they
do, seeing a little baby being helped, has
made me work as hard as I ever have in
my life,” said Hunt.
He was aided by over 22,000 volunteers
this year.
According to Mrs. Cheryl Darr, Fairway
Ave., Wemme, a key UGN volunteer,
UGN*s Neighborhood Division, which
reached 97.7 per cent of its goal, raised
8133 in the Sandy-Hoodland area. Last
year the total here was 8237.
Through this one campaign each fall, 89
human service agencies are funded. Last
year they helped over 300,000 people in
Clackamas, Washington, Multnomah and
Clark Counties.

Bus service from the greater Portland area will include stops in the
Sandy-Boring-Hoodland area on ski runs this year.
Besides ensuring snow enthusiasts a trip to the mountain, the bus
service is provided to alleviate the crush of individual automobiles on ski
areas, help save tax dollars now spent on snowplowing, and to help
preserve re mountain environment as well as gas and oil.
The state spent nearly 860,000 last year plowing roads and parking lots
in ski areas, according to Ron Thompson, recreation assistant with the
ZigZag Ranger D istrict
This year the state will trim its snowplow work around ski resorts. Also,
due to declining revenue and rising costs, the State Highway Department
will not be sanding the road from Highway 26 to Timberline.
Tri-M et run No. 4 to the mountain will drive into Damascus at 7:45
a.m., boom into Boring at 8 a.m., and stop by Sandy at 8 p.m. to deliver
skiers to Ski Bowl by 8:45 a.m. and Timberline around 9 a.m.
A round trip fare from Boring or Sandy will cost 82.. according to the
Tri-M et ticket fee scale.
Persons wishing to use the ski-bus should call the Tri-Met marketing
Dept. (233-8373) prior to Friday noons to reserve a seat on the route. The
potential bus boarder should indicate which day he will be riding and
where he will meet the bus The person s name is then entered on a
reservation chart similar to airline seating charts.
Exact fare is payed upon boarding the bus
