to attend convention
The community development
block grant program, land use
planning, law enforcement
goals and standards and a
variety of other topics relevant
to city government will be
discussed by Oregon mayors,
city councilm en, planning
commission mem bers and
other city officials during the
49th annual convention of the
League of Oregon Cities, Nov.
17-19 in Portland.
Sandy city councilmen will be
among the more than 1,500
persons expected to attend.
Guest speakers will include
Gov. Tom McCall and Sen.
M ark O. Hatfield who will
address convention luncheons
on Monday and Tuesday
Special
workshops
are
scheduled during the con­
vention on requirements for
local citizen participation in
planning for land use, tran­
sportation systems and law
enforcement, and on recent
developments in personnel
administration, including the
F a ir Labor Standards Act and
pending federal legislation on
national health insurance and
public employe collective
bargaining.
Section meetings will be held
for mayors, planning com­
mission
mem bers,
city
m anagers, c ity attorneys,
finance officers, police chiefs,
fire chiefs, municipal judges,
building officials, parks and
recreation

and
librarians. A special session is

Cub Scout Pack 248 held its
first meeting Thursday, Oct. M
A candle ceremony, performed
by Boy Scouts, initiated 19 cube
into the pack. Each cub
received his bear badge. Den 5
gave a short skit.

meeting

scheduled for Thursday, Nov.
21, when the annual father-son
cake contest will be featured
The public is invited, and en­
couraged to participate in the
cake sale which will follow the
judging. All proceeds will help
finance the pack’s activities for
the next year.
