Sandy vocational teacher nam ed 'outstanding educator Former Wyoming educator, Robert Stocking, has joined the industrial and mechanical careers department at Sandy High. Last year he won both the junior chamber of commerce educator aw ard and W yom ing’s P la tte County outstanding educator trophy. “ Had a good year,” Stocking notes modestly. At age 28 Stocking has already made his mark on the educational scene. He was the first teacher in Wyoming to offer a course in building construction at the seventh, eighth, and ninth grade levels, and while in Wheatland, Wyo., he pioneered a cooperative educational work experience program, similar in many ways to our own at Sandy High Stocking muses, " I hope I ’m able to expand qur woods and drafting program to encompass construction. We’ve a lot of interest in building trades among our students I ’m trying to generate more interest for both the construction class and a course in plastics that I ’m offering Both are structured along the craft line and are not s tric tly vocational-type sub jects.’’ Stocking believes courses should be offered to student in many different career areas to educate them about future jobs Courses should be patterned for hobby interest as well as for life careers Woodworking might have more use to a youngster because of its fun and relaxation appeal than it would as an occupational concern. A former teacher in Sherman County public school, Stocking attended the U niversity of Wyoming where he par ticipated in wrestling, in which he will assist coaching. His interests include hunting, fishing, and woodworking He, his wife Lee Ann. and two children. Calvin and Kevin, live in the Wildcat Creek area K eeping Poste, THURSDAY.
