Play Forest Grove Friday
Pioneers miss McMinnville

Minnville. Hayes trailed Bill Gregus in
total yards gained with 89. Friday the

coach Forest Allen isn’t one bit
disappointed in his team.
“You’ve got to give Mac
(McMinnville) a lot of credit,
they’re a good football team,
with a lot of talent,” reflected
the coach.
He said tackling, fumbles and
penalties during key situations
hurt Sandy's effort, but added
these all three sore sport can be
mended in practice.
The pioneers are preparing
this week to take on Forest
Grove in an away game Friday.
Allen is excited about playing
Forest Grove—last year they
stole the league title from him
The Forest Grove game will
be held at Pacific University in
Forest G rove, not at the
visitor’s high school.

large Turnout. Standing room
only greeted Sandy rooters.

leadership of quarterback John
Alps, Sandy pushed for 362 total
yards to Mac’s 346 offensive
total.
The home team red jerseys
also collected 11 first downs to
Mac's nine first downs.
Bill Gregus, who along with
Jon M iller scored Sandy’s pair
of touch downs, led his team in
total ground gained with 189
yards
Allen praised both Gregus
and Dub Hayes who through the
blocks in front of the swift
Sandy half back.
Other kind words from the
coach went to senior Alps for
“ doing a super job of moving
the offense," and to Jon Miller.
You would have never
guessed M iller missed last
Freshmen meet
season because of an injury.
The senior end went both ways
Friday night, scored a touch
down, and as the coach puts it
“did an outstanding job.”
Allen said his defense needs
to toughen up, although he
accredited them with stopping
a couple tense Mac goal line
drives la te in the fourth
quarter.

Lady golfers post scores
A blind hole match was the
play for the day at Bowman’s
Golf Club Ladies Day Aug. 22.
Tying for first were Dot Conley
and E llie Melody, each with 30
and a half.
Only a half point behind with
31 were Kay Thomsen, Glenda
Thomberg, and Lee Flynn, who
had a three way tie for second.
Third was Kathy Adskim
with 31 and a half. Following
her with a six way tie at 33 each
were Lou Kipp, D orothy
Phelps, Georgia V erm aas,
Doris Casey, Marge Jarvis, and
Cheryl D arr.
In fifth place were Dottie
Bruns and L o rry Lythgoe
who each had 34 and a half
On the next Ladies’ Day,
Aug. 29, play for the day was

Melody; Lou Kipp was third;

the 1974-75 school year of the
Sandy High Dad’s Club will be
held Monday, Sept. 23 at 7:30
p.m. in the high school library.

help promote school related
