In fact, got this writer interested. NOW IT CAN BE TOLD — Gary Cleland, Brightwood, was elected to the Board of directors of fire district No. 74 at the recent election. When asked if he had any changes in mind tor our fire district, Gary modestly said that he had some changes in mind but would like first to aquaint himself with the duties of his office and would rather issue a statement after he takes office on July 1. He further stated he would like to thank all the voters who sup ported him in the election. N O T E ; This in no way effects the F ire Chief Post. Ed Cooke will remain our chief and continue to operate the fire dept. with the efficiency he has so many times demonstrated in the past. W H IL E WE RE ON T H E F IR E K IC K - We had a “ Jim Dandy” down at Alder Creek last week on Kirkwood Drive. The Bright wood and Mt. units were called at 2:55 a m. and responded. The fire was located at the home of Thomas Classen. It was at a three bedroom home. Chief Cooke stated that damage was confined to an upstairs bedroom and the hallway. Thomas Classen suffered injuries to his hands and legs when he jumped to the ground from upstairs. The Sandy fire dept also responded with mutual aid. The fire is thought to be from smokers carelessness. A CALL TO TH E OREGON W IL D L IF E COMMISSION reveals this information. No trout have been planted in any of the mountain streams and planting is not scheduled until the water warms up What you are catching in the Salmon river, are in fact Steelhead smolt. They look like trout but each fish will have a fin missing. About 25,000 steelhead smolt were released off Marmot Bridge. This w riter witnessed that dump. T H E MT. HOOD STEELHEADERS CLUB invited Senator Jernstedt and Representative Walden to inspect Marmot Dam and see at first hand, the antiquated fish ladder, silting problems, little Sandy River dam with no ladder and the old earthen tunnel that diverts the water flow from the big Sandy into the old wooden flume that carries it to Roslyn Lake. The two district representatives showed keen interest in all the facilities. Pictures are shown elsewhere. Chow til next week.
