Byron Keith Rader, 70, 4955
SE 174th Ave., was fatally
injured Wednesday evening,
Feb. 13, in a two car collision on
Foster Road near SE 142nd
Ave.
Rader was westbound on
Foster Road when his vehicle
collided w ith a westbound
vehicle driven by Stacy Wade
McMahan, 30, Rt 1 Box 184D,
Eagle creek.
McMahan apparently turned
into the path of the Rader
vehicle, according to sheriff s
reports. McMahan was cited
for failure to keep right.

Jay Swails, Eagle Scout from
Troop 662 in Sandy, w ill be
guest speaker at the dinner.
The Pinewood Derby w ill be
held March 27.
The pack’s Snow Bunny
Outing on Feb. 2 was attended
by 52 Cub Scouts and their

Adolph Kotzman. who was
born in a log house on the Bluff
Road in Sandy, turned 96 years
old last Thursday, Feb 14
The nonagenarian, described
by his wife Margaret as “ one of
Sandy’s first pioneers,” has
spent most of his life in the
Sandy area
Kotzman grew up on his
father's farm where Roslyn
Lake is now located When he
was nineteen, he moved to
Prineville to farm, and then to
Yachats, before returning to
Sandy in 1939
The 96 year old Kotzman is
active and healty, except for
a hearing loss Mrs. Koyzman
attributes his longevity to
“ taking care of himself.”
“ He’s never drank or
smoked,” she declared. “ He
still gets out and takes care of
the lawn and gardens He gets
tired, but w ill be right back out
the next day
“ The neighbors can’t un
derstand it,” she added
Kotzman, who has outlived
five younger brothers, has
many memories of the early
days in Sandy.
“ He insists that there were
eight inches of snow on the
ground the day he was born,”
she laughed. “ I like to ask him
how he could see it ! ”
“ Another thing he remem
bers is selling his farm at
Roslyn Lake for $1,800,”
continued Mrs. Kotzman.
“ Things were a lot different in
those days.”
