and enrolled in a concentrated

Mt Hood Community College.
While there she acquired skills
in office work and became

As Mrs. Bradford puts it,
"What I like about my job most
is the change of pace every
day. Whenever I come to work,
I think to myself that there w ill
be something new to learn
today, something new to do ”
Hired at Sandy High in Oc
tober, 1972, Mrs Bradford had
to learn the school's new PBX
system for handling incoming
and outgoing calls. With the
exception of ca lls phoned
directly to the district office at
their special number, Esther
B ra dfo rd manages every
phoned request Sandy High
receives. The job doesn’t seem
to overw helm her, though,
since she has experienced fast
paced work before.
Says Esther, “ I worked in a
cannery on the production
lanes for many years That’s a
hard job which keeps you alert,
so I ’m used to being really
busy.”
Mrs Bradford, who lives
with her fam ily in Damascus,
has instituted a system of filing
those numbers w hich s ta ff
m em bers

request She maintains a large
vertical file on her desk that
effectively eliminates callers
from having to look up numbers
every time they go through the
school switchboard. Between
calls, she sorts mail, types
b ills , keeps special school
records, performs those jobs
easy to avoid because they’re
time consuming and tedious. To
Mrs Bradford, however, they
are part of her school assign
ment and she loves it.
“ How could I ever get
bored,” she excla im s en
thusiastically.

The U pper Grade chess
tournament began last Tuesday
with 25 players, under the
direction of Mr. Hanson. After
five rounds of play the top four
contestants w ill advance to the
county chess tournam ent.

proceed to the Oregon State
J u n io r Chess Tournam ent.
Hopefully Sandy w ill be well
represented.
Upper Grade rocketry ac
tiv ity w ill soon be booming off
the ground as M r Hanson
recently received the rocketry
permit from the state fire
m a rsh a ll.
Students
are
welcome to participate in the
program. Cost of model rockets
and engines w ill be paid for by
the participants Launchings
w ill be held once each week at
noon from the grade school
play for us called “ The Hippy
Frankenstein.” Dean Barker
wrote the play. The children
created their own costumes,
makeup, backdrop, and sound
effects Mrs Barker, The Rev.
Nuenfeldt, Mrs. H ertrick and
M rs. Smale were special
guests. We are s till watching

week for our health class. This
week we are making collages of
the state of Oregon and food
products found here. We are
also studying the kinds of food
the astronauts used and trying
some of them in our room.

The Lady Bug Theater group
presented “ Mr. Malion and the
Garbage Dump” last Thursday
as a special treat for the In
termediate building students.
The boys and girls really en
joyed it, particularly those who
suddenly became members of
the cast! Cleaning up our en
vironment was the theme of the
humorous and well-done play.
Student volunteers found
themselves directly involved
with M r Malion’s problem of
getting ride of rusty cans, pop
bottles, egg shells, tires, ctrffee
grounds and other pollution
problems while cleaning up his
garbage dump
