(Post Photo) Christmas season means good skiing With over a month of skiing already under their boots, Pacific Northwest skiers are looking forward to one of the best Christmas seasons in history. Snow continues to pile up with snow depths more like February than mid-December Gasoline shortages have had Uttle effect on skiing in most areas, although skiers are doubling up in many cases, consolidating their tran­ sportation. In other cases, they're looking more toward public transportation where available. A few service stations remain open on Sun­ days in many resort areas, lessening the chances for getting stuck without fuel. The closer-in resorts are billing themselves as “a tank or less away” . The weight-pulling contest will be held in the ski area, while the races will be held on the Cloud Cap road, a few hundred feet away. Sixty team s are expected from C a lifo r n ia , O regon, Washington, Idaho and Mon­ tana with 44 already entered. Class A teams will race 14 miles, class B 6 miles, class C 3 miles and youngsters in the Peewee class will race l-Ifc miles. The tourney is jointly sponsored by the Hood River Jaycees and by the Cascade Sled Dog Club. In their first six games this year, the Sandy High frosh Black team came out winners four times. A Sandy beat Wilson 61-49, Centennial 48-47; Barlow 61-44, and Wilson again 57-50. The loses came at the hands of Reynolds 54-53, and Cen­ tennial 52-40. Meanwhile the frosh Red team has lost both of its games. The team lost to Reynolds 58-32 and to Barlow 61-45. The biggest factor in running up a 4-2 record by the Black team, according to coach Brad Hanna, has been the hustle of the players “Everyman on the squad has been out there hustling and doing his best when he is in the game,” said Hanna. In the first five games, Brad Paluck with 53 rebounds tops the team while Jack Paola with 109 points is the top scorer. Paola is second in rebounds with 52 while Paluck trails in the scoring with 70 points. Another top rebounder for the Black team is Rob Allen with 37. Coach Hanna praised the defensive play of Jim Bennett and Dave Turin so far this season and also expressed pleasure with the ball handling of Kevin Jensen who leads the team in assists. The Red team coached by Jack DeLaney got good play fro m Gary Predmore in the Reynolds loss. The center collected 15 points and a game high 18 rebounds. In the loss to Barlow, Predmore has 13 points and 9 rebounds. He got help from John Althauser who hit for 10 points and collected 7 rebounds and Randy Stapleton who hit the boards for 7 rebounds.
