The film w ill be shown on Nov. 19 for one day only. Supervised by the Cooperative Extension Service, the program encôurages 4- H’ers to become more involved in all areas of agriculture, farm operations and management, food processing, product marketing and disease control. Livestock and crop production, conservation, operation of farm tractors and sm all engines, ve te rin a ry science, entom ology and com m odity m arketin g are some of the activities un dertaken by youths in the 4-H agricultural program In Clackamas County, over 1.000 4-H’ers are exploring these projects in a "learn-by- doing’ ’ situ a tio n under the guidance of teen and adult volunteerleaders. Of this total almost jm O 4-H’ers from 9 to 19 years of at',»’ are pursuing the 4- 11 beef project, adds Zurcher. Just how large should the Thanksgiving turkey be? That depends not only on the number coming for dinner, but whether they w ill be staying for an evening snack, and whether you want leftovers to nibble on or freeze, says M arilyn Lunner, Oregon State University E x tension home economist for Clackamas County. For turkeys under 12 pounds, allow 34 to one pound per serving. When buying larger birds, over 12 pounds, allow to 4* pound per serving. Allow additional weight depending on the post-holiday turkey uses you have in mind.
