signing one of the petitions now cir
culating to get a vote on this issue A
successful petition drive will mean
you will have a chance to vote on
whether you pay this tax.
If the drive fails to get the needed
27.IMH» signatures, then you will be
paying the tax as of July 1.
The recent legislature voted to give
the Port of Portland the right to tax at
the rate of an estimated 16 cents per
$1,000 of true cash value on property
in Clackam as, Washington and
Multnomah counties Before this
action, the Port's tax base was just
Multnomah county.
Petitions in the Sandy area will be
available through Sept 25. At that
time, the petitions will be turned in to
the county and state for certification
of signatures If the petitioners have
the needed signatures, a vote on this
issue will be held statew ide on Nov. 5,
1974.
We urge you to sign the petition

The fight against the poisonous
tansy ragwort weed will move to
Sandy Friday.
Local residents will have a rare
opportunity to get the latest in
formation by attending the second
Sandy Sem inar on Tansy. The
seminar will begin at 3:30 p.m and
run until 9 p.m. at the high school
An impressive list of experts on the
tansy will be assembled They will
enter into discussion on the weed and
will be available for local people to
question
The need to control the growth of
this weed is tremendous in the Sandy
area and the rest of Clackamas
County. The key to controlling the
growth is to have an informed public
willing to take the steps necessary.
This seminar will provide you with
the information you need to protect
your property against the poisonous
weed.
We urge you to attend this seminar
and support the effort to control this
weed.
Remember, it will take everyone's
individual effort to control the

the large number of votes on
this hot issue included motions
to refer to various committees,
motions for reconsiderations as
well as for final passage The
final passage had a m argin of
only one extra vote
The result of this expansion
means the added area w ill be
blessed with the opportunity of
helping support the operation of
the P o rt through p ro p e rty
taxes Also, the Port w ill have a
larger valuation base for more
bonding authority

Planning Commission and its
director is continuing, but with
problems
The committee, under the

committee did try , but has not

come of the hearings should be
