Saturday morning if when you
head east through Sandy if you
see cars also going west on
Main St
The Sandy police department
w ill stop a ll tra ffic on Proctor
Ave at 9 a m in order to clear
the street for the Centennial
and Barlow Rd Days parade
which begins at 10 a m The
tra ffic heading west w ill be re
routed on Main St making the
street two-way tra ffic for at
least two or three hours on
Saturday.
Parking on Main St w ill only
be allowed on the south side for
cars heading east No parking
w ill be allowed for cars on the
north side or heading west
No cars w ill also be allowed
to park along Proctor Ave until
after the parade Most persons
wishing to view the large
parade should plan on parking
in the parking lots in town or
along side streets
The parade route w ill be
down Proctor to N B luff Rd
and finish at the high school
parking lot at the athletic field
The floats w ill be on display
at the field during the day
Saturday along w ith the many
other activities planned for the
area.

near the
Lutheran Church and Gios
Ford at the east end of Sandy
A ll parade entries should be
in line no later than 8 :30 a m so
judging can get underway and
be completed before the parade
begins.
The Sandy police w ill be
getting help from both the
county and state Clackamas
County sheriff’s department
and the State Police as well as
the city reserve officers.
The advice to those wishing
to view the parade is to come
early if they wish to park close
and get the best seats along
Proctor

The Sandy River snaking its
way through the canyon at the
foot of Mt Hood is a continually
changing stream th a t has
threaded a path to the
Columbia River as it has done
for uncountable years prior to
the date of its recorded
discovery by the white man
In 1872, the same year as the
disco very o f the C olum bia
River, a B ritish Naval officer,
Lt Wm R Broughton, who was
responsible for naming Mt
Hood, ca lle d the stream
"B a rin g s R iv e r.” In 1805.
Lewis and Clark were making
th e ir jo u rn e y through th is
country and encountered the
rive r which they called the
"Quicksand R iver.” Then, with
the passage of tim e and
common useage it became
known as Sandy River
