plans hearings
on scenic w aterw ay
Hearings will soon be held on the
proposal to place 124 miles of the Sandy
River under the protection of the Scenic
Waterways Act.
The Oregon Highway Commission will
hold the hearings sometime in January ,
according to officials of the parks section
of the State Highway Department.
The section of the riv e r to be considered
includes both Clackamas and Multnomah
Counties
For the past several months, according
to state officials, an investigation has been
made into the proposal and a report is
being compiled on the section of the Sandy
River between Dodge P ark and Dabney
Park

The report is not yet completed, but
when completed it will be made available
to the public The report covers suitability
of the n v e r to the Scenic Waterways Act
and the effects of such a designation on
land ownership and existing uses along the
river section
Over a year ago. the proposal was made to
place this section of the Sandy River under
the act At that time, a public hearing was
held in Sandy to discuss the proposal
One of the questions raised at that
meeting concerned the land ownership in
the 124 mile stretch of river
No definite date for the meetings in
January has been set

"We didn't play as
well as we could.”
“ We were out rebounded in
the first half We only had two
days of practice last week and
it snowed.”
Booth said the contest was a
trem endous spectator gam e
and the shooting figures
showed it.
The Saints hit 45 of 92 from
the floor to 39 for 79 for Oregon
State But the telling statistic
was at the free throw line The
Beavers hit 24 of 33 shots from
the gift stripe to only 4 for 6 for
Mt Hood.
High scorers for the Saints
were Tony Hopson with 36.
hitting on 18 of 37 attempts
P e rry C am pbell was close
behind with 34, hitting a red ho,
16 of 27 tries Campbell also
grabbed 12 rebounds
"Without a doubt Campbell
was the out standing man on the
floor," Booth said
The 6-5 Alabama product
fouled out w ith a m inute
remaining in the contest and
got one of the biggest ovations
of the night.

"We forgo, what the word
defense was,” Booth explained
"They played an excellent ball
game I think we played at
about 75 per cent of our
potential.”
" I think we learned some
things from it.”
The Saints trailed at halftime
51-48 and battled point for point
with OSU in the second stanza
With 1:18 remaining Mt Hood
had a 2 point lead
But then the foul bug took its
toll and gave the win to the
Beavers The last 6 Oregon
State points were from the foul
line
A couple of former Sandy
High School cagers will be in
the Judson Baptist ranks for
the
Saint
contest— R ay
Perkins, a 6-5 forward .and Bob
Bueller, a 6-0 guard
"One thing you can say about
them is they always play tough
againat us," Booth said
