New programs, new facilities
and more students await the
Sept 26 start of Mt. Hood
Community College's seventh
year of operation.
About 11,000 students are
expected to enroll—some 13 per
cent more than in fa ll. 1971.
Approximately 5,500 w ill attend
full time.
New students may register in
the MHCC admissions office
through Sept 20

Evening instruction begins that
night and day classes start
Tuesday, Sept 26
Students may select majors
in 48 vocational and technical
areas and in 43 college transfer
programs A dozen short-term
certificate programs are also
available in the vo-tech area
Additional courses w ill be
available for those persons
wishing to upgrade their skills
and more than 60 adult enrich
ment and-or recreation classes
w ill be offered
Night classes w ill be nearly
as plentiful as day classes this
fall Some 247 classes w ill be
held on campus after 5 p m and
another 286 classes w ill be held
in high school fa c ilitie s
throughout the college district
through the MHCC extension
program

schools are a cixiperative effort
between the college and the
public schools to open neigh
borhood school facilities to the
public (outside regular school
hours» for programs of general
community interest

activities w ill be suggested by

w ill be offered at little or no
charge and w ill be taught by
volunteer in s tru c to rs and
activity leaders

Three new buildings w ill be
ready for use fall quarter

space for classes in secretarial
science, accounting, shorthand,

skills
The college's new art village

10,900 square feel of space for
painting, drawing, sculpture,
design,

smithing and jewelry making
The third m ajor structure is a
co m bination d in ing r o o m -
classroom fa cility which w ill
add several large and small
classrooms and an enlarged
dining area to the campus
Presently under construction
is a solar observatory which
w ill tie in with the college's
p la n e ta riu m fo r extensive
instructional and community
services uses
Mt Hood hosted the Portland
T ra il B la ze r's fa ll camp
beginning Sept 12 New Blazer
coach Ed McCloskey drilled his
troops morning and evening for
eight days.
The Mt Hood Saints football
team started its third cam
paign Sept 16 in Wenatchee
against the defending North
west
Community
College
champions
The first home game is Sept
23 with Yakima This game has
been designated as the Kiwanis

Benefit game with all proceeds
going to the club's fund for
disadvantaged children
