Try, Try, Try Again
The city of Sandy will seek for the
third time this spring to get voter
approval for a budget for next year.
The city officials have cut the
budget reducing the tax rate by over
one dollar per $1,000 of true cash
value.
Yet at the same time, the council
also made funds available for the
hiring of a city administrator this
January.
Both the move to cut the budget to
lower taxes and the budgeting of a
city administrator were done by the
council to meet the demands of city
voters.
We agree with the city council and
hope the city voters will also on June 6
by passing the budget
More Serious Look Needed
- It was obvious from the meeting
with the Army Corps of Engineers
that they had no set plan for the Sandy
river, but rather were acting to follow
up on authority given them by-
Congress.
The meeting could have been more
m eaningful if the Corps had
presented information on the need for
flood control. Instead they just kept
saying there was a need for it.
We also feel there is a need for some
form of flood control work and at the
same time this work could be used to
improve the environment of the River
area, especially the fish habitat.
Yet we question the Corps doing the
job, seeing the problems the state is
having with them to meet en
vironmental standards.
Also we have heard of the Corps use
of cement to replace river banks.
We feel the flood control problem on
the Sandy river needs a more serious
look by all.

The Sandy Post:
After reading your editorial
in the May 25th Sandy Post I
conclude we must have had our
wires crossed when I talked to
you on election day last week
For one thing, I know what
my precinct is (No. 373) and
had no trouble whatsoever in
voting at the proper polling
place.
What I was trying to convey
to you was that the recent
alteration of precinct boundary
lines and Clay Myers' peculiar
re d is tric tin g methods have
resulted in confusion on both
ends of the ballot box
For example:
In past elections candidates
from precinct 373 and Sandy’s
precinct 101 have been identical
(and still should be). Since
information on precinct 373 was
o m itte d from the v o te rs ’
pamphlet, it was not until I
received my ballot that I found
what changes had been made in
my state representative and
senatorial districts
T hey are now not only
co m p letely d iffe re n t from
Sandy’s 101 but also those of my
other neighboring precincts 371
and 372 The reasons for this
change are not obvious to me
(and some may be good ones)
but I feel I should have been
informed of them in advance of
the election.
In addition, I live on the west
Mde of Langensand Rd., the old
precinct 373 boundary line,
which has now been moved a

mile or two eastward.
My
d aughter
and
her
husband have recently built a
house just across the road from
me on the east side of
Langensand Rd which was
formerly in precinct 372, but is
now in 373.
They both registered at this
address in March at the Sandy
fire hall (but on different days).
My daughter was notified later
that she was in precinct 373 but
her husband found himself in
372
As a consequence she voted
in 373 for a representative from
district 26, while he, in 372,
voted for candidates from
representative district 55 and
senatorial district 28 They did
not realize until they got home
(due to the fact that 373 was not
listed in the voters^ pamphlet)
that they were voting in dif
ferent districts
I can imagine that this farce
was repeated many times over
in the prim ary election due to
the aforem entioned
state
redistricting and changes in
precinct boundary lines
I don’t know how others in
this situation may feel about
this gerrymander, but I feel
th at I have been la rg e ly
disenfranchised

The Gresham Boys’ Choir
concert will be at 8 p m .

organization, directed by Gary
Funk and Gary Kaiser of
Gresham High, is composed of
two groups of boys. The ad
vanced choir of 35 boys will
perform all the selections from
“O liver” which was a musical
written for a boys’ choir,
“Spinning Wheel,” “Clap Your
Hands,” and several other
tuneful selections.
From this group, John Sooge,
Lloyd Good and John Helding
will perform individual solos,
and humorous inpersonations
by Lloyd Good, Brian Macy and
John Helding will be featured
