on the 1970 census by the
Bureau of the Census, U.S.
Department of Commerce Per
capita income for the county
amounted to $3,423, the report
shows.
The 1970 census counted
166,088 residents in the county;
3.2 percent were foreign bom
and 11.7 percent native born
with one or both parents of
foreign birth.
Among the county’s 152,647
inhabitants age 5 and over in
1970, 24,802 were living in a
different county w ithin the
| State in 1965, and 17,471 in a
different State
In the population age 16 and
over, 79.3 percent of the men
and 40 6 percent of the women
were in the labor force Among
the employed, 49 8 percent
were holding white collar jobs,
and 14.5 percent were govern
ment workers
About 39 6 percent of the
married women with husband
present were in the labor force,
and 27.2 percent of these wives
had children under six
There were 50,909 persons 3
to 34 years old enrolled in
school. In the 25-and-older
population, 60 8 percent of the
men and 66 5 percent of the
women were high school
graduates

help pay for the rental of the
