Hood N.F., and David B Marshall, Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife. This booklet lists birds that are found in the area, and birds that pass overhead in the course of their migrations. It should prove to be a very in form ative guide for b ird watchers in this area. The booklet will be available to the public late this fail and may be obtained in the Mt. Hood Supervisors Office and the Zigzag Ranger District Office. , ooo Cindi Hager, 19, attended MHCC last year This year she has been nam ed MISS OREGON WORLD in a statewide competition held in August. What a beautiful spot they have made of that. The marina and park are magnificent, and the little restaurant is very nice. The food is gix»d, and well served. Three sides of the restaurant are glass so you have a great view of Lake Billy Chinook and can watch the boats going in and out. The water skiing is out of this world. All that space, and not enough people to even notice. Lots of boats, but lots of room for them all. Went on over to the other side and looked over some of the property, but didn't care too much for the location. Rambled all around, then home by way of Maupin. The w eather was overcast, but warm, better than the rain we left here. Cathy Durr went with us since she had never been over to either dam. It is always fun to show off places to someone that has never seen them. ’ S' Si-' ■«.SiS iS W ® ! !!< Hoodland Fire Department. This was one of several crimes in the area this past week. Fire damaged the building but was put out by the J ' By NELL HOWE Hood-Land Reporter We used to see a lot of Jim and Jo Wahoske on the mountain but lately, not so much. Jo dropped me a note that congratulations are in order, not only to them, but to their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wahoske of Seattle. Martin and his wife are the proud new parents of their first child, Bradley Giles, born August 15. Mr and Mrs. Erank Giles, of Seattle, are the other grandparents Great Grand parents are Henry R Wahoske, Portland, Mrs. Edith Reid and Mrs Ered G oldsberry, of Seattle. Congratulations to them all. Jo also was happy to report that their daughter, Maty Caye and her husband George Bucks, have moved from Minneapolis back to Portland Mary Caye is expecting in Sept Bert Stauffer is home on a 30- day leave from his job in Viet Nam He looks great and we are all delighted that he is home for a spell, even if it is much too short a time. Al's Market at Rhododendron was broken into last Saturday night, some guns and am munition. as well as many cig arettes and other stuff stolen They tried to jimmy the safe, but only succeeded in making such a mess of it that A1 had to have Jim Purdy come up with a cutting torch to open it so he could continue business in the morning We may live out of the big city, but we sure seem to be having all the big city problems Hope they catch some of these characters soon. It’s getting so a person hates to even leave long enough to go to the store Now with Mrs. B ender's giving up the Oregonian route, we have lost one of our best watchdogs I don't think folks realized all the good deeds that gal performed while on the p a p e r ro u te Sorta lik e an unsung hen» We will miss her. but know she deserves to give up one of her jobs After all she is only one person Our best to you in the future Took a ride over to Round Butte Wen, into to Pelton and over the back way to Round Z* - looked pretty bare except for the glaciers. There was some new snow on the top from a light storm which came through the area early last week. ( Post Photo) Mountain trail good for overnight packers Here is another brief resume on one of our more popular trails. This is one that is “made to order” for the overnight backpacker. The lower end of the Salmon River Trail No. 742 may be familiar to you. But have you ever hiked the whole length? The trail is 14.2 miles long, and the 8 to 10 miles in the middle get very little use. The trail follows the Salmon River Canyon through a veritable rain forest. You will enjoy the views from 300 foot bluffs, and the many spec tacular falls. You should make this a two or three day trip in order to have time to enjoy the scenery. You'll probably want to try your hand at angling for the native trout that are fairly plentiful in the middle stretch of the river But do take along enough food; do not depend upon the trout for your meals, as they may not be as hungry as you are. Water is plentiful on this hike and need not be carried. Don’t forget to purify any water taken from stream, though; all open streams are subject to F Y í » - - Avá*”'.- Fire Fighters Volunteers: 7:30 - UNTIL THE KAIN hit us Tuesday the local rivers and Mt.
