Frosh footballers
report, varsity
turnout light
Frosh football paracti.ce is
set to begin on Friday Aug. 27.
Players will report to the high
school locker room with foot
ball shoes and the nine dollar
insurance fee.
Dennis Warren will be
coaching the freshman team.
The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m.
New coach Woody Allan is
handling the varsity this year
with the help of Steve Guttu and
Mike Kostrba.
Kostrba is a student at
Portland State University and
is working with the Pioneers as
part of his classroom assign
ment. He will help Glen Smith
with the JV footballers.
The meeting Friday will be
the first team meeting for the
frosh team players. The second
Lifesaving
at Sandy pool
is hoping to have another
student coach help out with the
frosh team.
During the first week of
practice for the varsity, first
year coach Allan has been
greeted with a small turnout.
Only about 35 players have
been practicing.
Coach Allan is hoping that as
players see how his method of
coaching works that more will
turn out for the team. Also
those players with summer
jobs will be out soon.
He said the team is hurting
mostly in the number of
linemen out of the team, but
good spirit is being shown.
Sandy is trying to recover
from a one win and eight loss
season last year.
