POST Thun., July 8, 1971 (Sec 2) No slow down for summer at Sandy schools Bv CURT JOHNSON ByCUR TJO H NSO N Post W riter A school is one of the busiest areas during the sum m er, despite w hat m any people might think. That is the way it is at the five Sandy grade schools, according to Tony Bryant, superintendent of the Sandy grade schools School is done for three months but that is not the time to shut down for summer. Instead, work and maintenance must be carried out to ready schools for the next year. “Businesses don't shut down for three months in the sum m er Why should schools?” Bryant said People working at the schools have plenty to do when summer rolls around. Bryant said much of his time is devoted to com piling end-of-the-year reports for the County Department of E d ucation and the State Department of Education M rs . V irg in ia Ham es is employed 12 months a year as deputy clerk She handles the fiscal and bookkeeping of the grade schools. Another year around em ployee is Miss Hyacith Grassl. She helps with end-of-the-year reports and acts as Bryant's se cretary in the sum m er. Receptionist is another one of her summer duties “ We have six fulltim e district custodians They are busy in the summer washing wood work. scrubbing floors, and taking care of trees, shrubbery and lawns at our five schools. We also have assistant custodians These are students who work for the district during the summer. We have eight of them. One is a M t Hood C om m unity College student and the other seven are high school students,” Bryant said. Bryant feels the grade school district likes to keep things in good condition inside and outside year around.
