The Sandy
team
ended the season on a winning
note as they won their last two
games of the season.
The two wins gave the
Pioneers a 7 wins 15 loss mark
for the season which saw them
improve steadily during the
second half of the season.
Last Friday they lost to state
tournament bound LaSalle in a
close one 65 to 58 after trailing
only 30 to 26 at half. Following
this loss the local team eked out
an overtime win 67 to 66 over
Canby and then led all the way
Tuesday night winning their
final game of the season 61 to 53
over Central.
In the two wins Randy Ackers
kept the Sandy team alive in
the first half of each game with
outstanding outside shooting
and then Rick Zimmerman
took over with the help of Steve
Buhler in the second half of
each game to pull out the wins.

In the game with Canby
which was a make up game, the
Pioneers played a sluggish first
half so coach Jim Kitchen took
his troops upstairs at halftime
and drilled them on rebounds
instead of giving them a half
time pep talk
It worked and they took
command of the game after
trailing by as much as 15 points
in the first half to win the game
in overtime.
Fouls were called all over
the court with Canby losing
four players and Sandy losing
Zimmerman, Ackers and Mike
Leary by the foul route before
the game was over.
Zimmerman who led the
team with 18 points left the
game with five minutes to go
after leading his teammates to
a one point deficit at the end of
three periods 45 to 46.

Leary replaced him and with
the help of Terry Cansler the
Sandy team stayed with Canby
and took a three point lead tn
the final period before a 62 to 62
tie was had at the end of
regulation time.
In the overtim e period
Cansler and Buhler led the
team to a three point lead,
which Canby could not over
come.
Buhler ended up with 14
points, Acker 14, Cansler 11,
Leary 6 and Ray Perkins 4.
Cansler also got 11 rebounds
while Zimmerman got 13.
In the central win the Sandy
team led all the way with the
early shooting of Ackers
leading the way and the second
half scoring and rebounding of
Zimmerman keeping them on
top.
Central got to within two
points in the final period but
Buhler hit two quick baskets to
ice the game for the Sandy five
