The meeting Monday set the scene for the March 8 meeting w ith the c ity 's fre e h o ld e rs where the actual budget w ill be formed. The meeting is set for 8 p m. in the c ity hall Freeholders are citizens of Sandy who own property and are able to vote in city elec tions. New council members Mike Paluck and George Burg have yet to name th e ir freeholders while those named are Bob G ro k e tt, Pete L e w is, John Rowell and F rank Slesk. Each councilman names one freeholder. In the proposed budget the police budget is estimated to call for $30,372, up $4,572 from last year. The public property budget calls for $27.700, up $9,300 General Government budget is seeking to go up about $2.000 from last year to $46,667. The sewer budget in this prelim inary budget calls for $20,610, down $33,860 but bonds for the new sewer treatm ent plant w ill be sold in the near future. This program is sponsored by the State Employment Division and the fe d e ra l m anpow er program w ith employees being paid by the state At present Clackamas county has over 100 persons working th ro u g h th is p ro g ra m in various county departments According to the city council the c ity w ill use these workers at least through the end of May when th e fu n d in g fo r the program runs out They w ill be employed by the city for such work as brushing out the water pipeline along Cedar Creek, brushing out the city park area, landscaping the city hall and other various jobs which are needing work in the city. These employees w ill not take the place of any city em ployees and m ust have supervision, according to rules set by STEP officials. Volunteers needed for ambulance A n.eeting is being held tom orrow night at 7 p m . in the fire hall in an effort to save the ambulance service in Sandy. A cco rd in g to Deane Wesselink a member of the V o lu n t e e r s A m b u la n c e A sso cia tio n , the am bulance service in Sandy is about to fold due to not enough volunteer personnel to man the car He said that members of the association have been visiting local groups in the Sandy area hoping to get support and that the meeting F rid a y night is planned to gain volunteers who are w illin g to put in tim e on the ambulance The service is completely self-supporting, according to Wesselink so the need is not money but rather people who can give tim e Both men and women are needed and it is hoped that at least 20 vo lu n te e rs in the comm unity w ill show up at thi meeting The association, which runs the service outside of the fire d istrict but through its dispatch unit, is looking to set up regular meeting so that the volunteers can remam inform ed and so other people in the comm unity can become part of it.
