"One of our major jobs is keeping a watch on the trails ) through phone contact and through our joint effort with the I ski patrols and lift operators in each area,” said Bob. He explained that the forest service is in control of the recreational areas on the mountain because they are on forest service land. “We check out each area at least once a week and often more than i that,” he said. The snow rangers started this year in October and he expects I that they will be on duty fulltime until late April at which time most of the snow I activity is ending. i “ We are responsible for I everything that happens on this mountain,” said Bob 1 On Saturday when I was with him we were continually on the run helping bring down injured sk iers, checking on the operation of lifts in the area and ! the condition of the slopes. “ We work clo sely with everyon e on the mountain especially the ski patrol and the first aid personnel,” he said Areas involved in the snow rangers co verage include Timberline, Ski Bowl. Snow | Bunny Ixxlge, Trillum Lake snow trails and anything else which has to do with winter sports in the national forest lands. The snow rangers were in volved in the recent rescue of the two Eugene climbers from / the mountain and according to Bob he has spent several hours during each year out hunting for lost climbers and skiers.
