Aliens report
addresses
in Oregon
William L. Pattillo, District
Director of the Immigration
and N aturalization Service,
urges all aliens in the State of
Oregon who have not yet filled
out alien address report forms,
to do so before January 31st, at
the nearest Immigration and
Naturalization Service Office
or local Post Office.
The Im m igration O fficial
pointed out
that the law
requires all non-citizens, ex
cept persons in diplom atic
status and foreign represen
tatives to certain international
organizations, such as the
United Nations, to report their
addresses to the Government
each January.
Pattillo added, “The parent
or legal guardian of an alien
child under 14 years of age
must fill out the address report
form for such a child in order to
comply with the law.”
He declared, “We have tried
to make it as convenient as
possible for non-citizens to
meet the address report
requirements; and, in view of
serious penalties for willful
violation, all persons subject to
the address report law are
urged to fulfill this obligation
before the end of January.”
The Im m igration Official
said 12,000 aliens in the State of
Oregon have already filled out
address reports. He estimated
that 26,000 such reports will be
submitted before January 31st.
State traffic
convictions
show drop
Nearly 930 traffic violation
convictions were reported to
the Oregon Motor Vehicles
Division each day during 1970.
Convictions for the year
numbered 341,240, a six per
cent decrease over 1969.
The year-end report by the
Division noted that 60,224
drivers had their licenses
suspended for varying periods
of time during the year. Most of
these suspensions, 53,868, were
issued
under
mandatory
provisions of the law.
The report said convictions
reported from Oregon courts
for driving while intoxicated
decreased about two per cent in
1970, but that total suspensions
on this charge still increased to
7,004 because of a sharp in
crease in convictions of Oregon
drivers reported by other
states.
The law, a spokesman said,
requires suspension for an out-
of-state conviction when the
charge would result in a
suspension if it had occurred in
Oregon
The Division issued 9,587 add-
year suspensions to drivers
found driving on an already
suspended license This was 10
more than for 1969
