of our little village have been
long overdue for a facelifting.
The razing of the old
greenhouses adjacent to the
Alpine Hut probably started
things rolling. Now, there
seems to be a rash of painting,
cleaning and overhauling going
on. Such an improvement!’’
“A couple of our “green-
thumb” citizens have begun to
re-landscape the small garden
area surrounding the modest
bronze plaque commemorating
the pioneers who traveled the
Barlow Trail. The gardeners
have already cleared out many
weeds and briars and have
p lanted
rhododendrons,
azaleas, roses and a small
dogwood tree. There is still a lot
of hard work to be done and
volunteers com plete with
strong backs, bulging muscles
and shovels would be most
welcome to help finish this
project before the snow flies.”

this bit of news from Rhody and
I hope they will continue to drop
us bits from time to time.
IN conjunction with the
above item it should be known
that the Hoodland tabloid
section of the Sandy Post is
taking part in the Rhododen
dron “fix-up” program. The
little gift shop building next to
the old Begonia Gardens was
purchased from Jim Henry for
a newspaper office and it will
soon be moved to a new location
next to A1 Moore’s Mt. Hood
Shopping Center. Hopefully,
the office will be ready for use
next week.
NOW about the Hoodland
tabloid section of the Sandy
Post: The first edition created
much excitement and certainly
much comment! Even those
who had criticism were pleased
with the general idea, which is
a Hoodland newspaper, not just
a tabloid devoted to business
openings. N aturally, grand
openings, such as the new

Hoodland Park Plaza Shopping
Center, are big news and will be
treated accordingly. In fact, an
extra amount of space will be
devoted to the shopping centers
since they will be the “back
bone” of the paper. Without
their advertising - no tabloid!
It will take a week or two to
get everything co-ordinated
and running smoothly and your
ideas and comments are indeed
welcome. Your help with news
items is vital and until the
phone is installed in the new
office please call 622-4232, my
home number.
The Hoodland Park Plaza
business people have already
arranged a co-ordination plan
with Olin Bignall and Gay
Saunders as publicity chair
men. They will contact me
weekly with items re the Plaza
and Gay has offered to write a
column containing bits about
personnel and special hap
penings, etc. So look for the
“Hoodland Park Plaza Hap
penings" column in the next
issue.
Had there been time to
establish the above column this
week, it would contain the
following items: Business off to
such a good start at Kathy and
Bill Wright’s House Of Beauty
that they already had to add to
their personnel. Georgia
Kelner of Zigzag joins the staff
Thursday. Lovely Leora Beadle
has been with the Wrights since
opening. (Is there anyone who
saw the Mountain Players “Ten
Nights In A Bar-Room” who
doesn’t remember the cute olio
act done by Leora and her
Mom, Diane Beadle? Their cue
cards read: “The Bouncing
Beadles” and they were a
smash! Incidentally, Diane is
now employed at A1 Moore’s
store in Rhody.)
Everyone remarked about
the live models in the window of
Gay’s Kache and Gay says they
will be back next weekend for
the enjoyment of all “girl-
watcher’s.” Gay has also added
Kathy Beaver and Diane
Shubert to her staff. (Diane is
Annie Shaw’s lovely la ss.)
Elaine Hagen, who was with
Gay for the past year, decided
to retire to house-wifely duties
and will be missed at the
Kache.
John Roach of the Super
Chief and his wife Pat have
become permanent residents of
Rhody after years of week
ending it.
