Effective Oct. 1, Mrs. Ada Zimm erm an has sold the 12-Mile Country Store to Mr. and Mrs. John Fuqua o f Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Fuqua are experienced grocery operators, most recently having owned the Park ’n Shop in St. Johns for 4 'i years. Before that they were in Toledo with an IGA store, Originally from Indiana, the Fuquas have called Oregon home for 27 years. He served 4'4 years w ith the combat medics in Europe during World War II. The Fuquas plan to retain the name o f the store and the present personnel. Any changes w ill be announced in a grand opening soon. Mrs. Zimmerman w ill retain ownership o f the building and Army Assigns Sgt. Thornton Army Sergeant James E. Thorton 26, son o f M r. and Mrs. Curtis F. Thorton, Sandy, was assigned Sept. 1 to the 54 th Field Artillery Group near Bien Hoa, Vietnam, as a section chief. the fixtures, leasing these to the Fuquas. Hood Community College w ill be offering a special short course title d "D e fen sive D riving" beginning Tuesday evening. Oct. 7. It w ill meet from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. for 4 sessions through Oct. 28. Phe Portland T raffic Safety Commission w ill conduct the course through th e ir representatives, Joe McEaney and Billie Atkins. This program is offered to help individuals drive better in order to avoid accidents. The course w ill be held in PE-118 at a lee ol $5. Registration may be completed at the first class meeting only.
