The Snooper ( and The Dirty Bird) P a u lin e and Don Chamberlain, who moved to Arizona a couple of months ago, were recent visitors to their old stomping grounds in H oo d lan d . They were so delighted to be “home” again that they plan to return in the near future. I suspect they will spend as much time in Hoodland as Arizona. Remember my telling you about Bill’s Pill Box, the dandy little gadget Bill Anderson of Rhody invented to carry a weekly supply of pills in daily doses? Bet you’d be surprised to k n o w how well this stocking-stuffer-type product has gone over. Bill's mail order business has recently zoomed beyond the nation-wide market to the world-wide market! Would you believe Bill is in the midst of filling an order of 20,000 pill boxes to be shipped to B risbane, Australia??!? (Must be a lot of sick Aussies!) Lewis Damall called to ask if I could include a special note of gratitude in the column from him and his son Jerry to all the fine people who have helped them through their recent period o f distress. Lewis was afraid he might miss t h a n k in g som eone who participated in the recent benefit dinner at the Whistle Stop. He and Jerry are most appreciative of everything done in their behalf since the death of Mrs. Darnall. (I know how Lewis feels, it is difficult to keep track when many people contribute and no matter how hard you try to thank everyone individually the fear that you might have missed someone remains.) COMING EVENTS: Friday, Sept. 26, Hoodland Women’s C lu b Fun Night at the Hoodland Park Recreation Bldg. Ladies bring a Box-Lunch supper for two and everyone wear Back To-School garb. In c id e n ta lly , the Open House at the new school attracted enough people to fill the cafeteria for the P.T.A. meeting Tuesday night and although I wasn’t able to attend I heard nice comments about the new building and the m eeting. Faith Fowler is president of the P.T.A., this year and it looks like she has an active group to work with. D IR T Y B IR D DROPPINGS: Dirty Bird put on his Kilts and dropped by Bowman’s to observe the Restaurant Owners of Oregon Association convention in progress. Arriving late in the evening, I chatted with Page Yaw, a great guy, and Eddie Mays, also Jim Shaw. How did he get in the act? D.B. has a hunch Jim was sitting in his favorite spot all the time and the convention just moved in around him. (Snoop adds: the reason D.B. wore Kilts; theme o f th e c o n v e n tio n was “ Highland Fling” !) D ir ty B ird w elcom es, so on -to-b eco m e-perm an ent Marilyn and Bud Nash, who recently bought a lot o ff Fairway Ave. to build a home on. Bud is director o f the Timberline Ski School and is fast proving himself one o f the best in his field, which goes to prove you don’t have to be a prima-donna to run a good ski s ch oo l. The thought just occured that it might be great fun to organize a Hoodland learn to ski program with Bud this winter. (Snoop adds: Great idea, D.B., as long as you do the organizing. 1 think I ’ve spent half my life trying to get things started and I ’ve had it! I t ’s surprising how many o f us “ low-landers” in Hoodland don’t ski - and we’re so close to the finest ski areas in Oregon. Just talked myself into it (with a little nudge from my pal Gudge) so sign me up for lessons, D.B., I ’m willing to try anything once!) D ir t y Bird has been informed by a member of his own family, no less, that he has become a gossip and that the people he writes about resent the intrusion into their privacy. With ruffled feathers, Dirty Bird replies, as a member of the third estate he has a sacred obligation to his country, to the public at large and to the brotherhood he represents, to report the news as it happens, where it happens and how it happens. (Snoop had to read this twice before realizing D.B.’s new role as a reporter hadn’t gone to his head! Just to his tail-feathers!!! Explain to your ever-loving spouse,D.B. she needn’t worry about your gossiping, til people find out who you are, then you can always leave the country!) Dirty Bird noted that Elmer E r i’s in-laws and outlaws gathered Saturday to put to g e th e r a s u r p r is e house-warming for the Eri’s in their new home. Theme was “ why don’t we do this more often” , put together by Red and Ernie Sladky, Crissie Jo and Don Eri, Judy and Carl Newman and Rachel and Rub Stone. There were many great gifts for the new house and a money tree. It was truly a surprise. Elmer was out hauling rock when the happening started to happen. There were tons of food and refreshments by the keg and half gallon and w hen th e goodies finally s ta rte d to run out, the survivors adjourned to the W h is tle Stop where they carried on *til dosing time.
