Sandy, P eter, w h o se E nglish, though somewhat hesitant, is almost perfect, said he learned the language at a Lutheran school he attended at home and also from his father, Mahfouz AbuShanad, who is manager of a travel agency in Jerusalem. The A buShanad fa m ily are members o f the Syrian (Greek) Orthodox Church. Peter’s favorite sports are swimming and basketball, with swimming the one he does best in. He was a patrol leader in his Boy Scout Troop in Palestine and is looking forward to participating in Sandy scouting activities. So far the biggest difference he has found between Palestine and O regon is th e weather...“much cooler here.” The people are not as different as he had expected and even though he is used to highly seasoned food, he pronounced American Food “ Delicious!” PETER ABU SHANAD A slender 16-year-old youth from half way around the world has made a 12,000 mile journey to attend school in this country. P e te r A buShanad, a •Jordanian national born and brought up in strife torn Jerusalem, hopes to become an electronic engineer and will attend Sandy high school this year as a member o f the senior class. After graduation Peter plans to take his first two years o f college study at Mt. Hood Community College.
