No. Well, you haven’t been to Mister Jim’s shop in the Gresham Mall The decor is Mediterranean, O w n er Jam es L. Meng explained, adding that he got th e id ea after thumbing through various magazines that feature "what’s new” in barber shop design and decor. When you enter Mister Jim’s you step onto dark green, pile carpeting that covers the lounee area d v your n u r e eyes v e s t turn u rn lounge area an and almost automatically to the Topaz plywood paneling that complements the green and gold-striped wall paper. Gold swag lamps add to the decor o f this ultramodern 3-chair shop. The other chairs are manned by Bob Hart and Earl Clausen who. like Meng, are exponents o f the Carlo method o f hair styling, having taken courses from Joe Carlo o f Miami, Fla., the world’s first recognized men’s hair stylist. Meng was quick to point out that “all o f us are conventional barbers as well as College Adds George Carver George Carver, a Gresham resident, will join the Mt. Hood Community College staff this fall as an instructor in the Mass Communications Division. In joining the staff at MHCC, Carver leaves his current position as Director of Institutional Relations and Assistant Professor at the University o f Oregon Dental School. His experience covers a broad area of m ass c o m m u n ic a tio n s including Journalism and photography. He has been a part-time p h o to g ra p h y instructor at MHCC since 1966. Carver was the Information O fficer at Portland State University for five years, prior to joining the University o f Oregon Dental School and formerly edited a weekly newspaper near Tacoma. Prior to moving into the Gresham Mall, he was at 1211 East Powell Blvd., for 4 years. He entered the tonsorial art in 1 9 5 0 following graduation from Moler Barber College in San Francisco. Hart is also familar with the area, having been there for the last two years as an associate of Meng on Powell Blvd. He and Clausen are graduates o f the Executive College o f Barbering and Men’s Hair Styling in Portland. M ister J im ’s will also accomodate the man who is looking for a hairpiece. Even if you don’t need a haircut, Mister Jim’s is a pleasant place to visit. Sweet Adelines Sing for Picnic A group from Blue Lake Chapter of Sweet Adelines, Inc., sang at the Sandy Pioneer picnic July 27. On July 18 several members went to D am m asch H ospital near Wilsonville where they sang for some o f the patients there. Blue Lake Chapter was represented by five members at the summer regional meeting which was held at Vancouver, Wash. Ken Torr, director o f the group, meets with the “gals” for rehearsals each Monday evening at 8 o'clock in the Senior Citizens Center at the skating rink, entrance on the west side. Anyone who likes to sing is welcome to join the group.
