Bertha and her two granddaughters, Jill Wright and Nancy Medici, took the train to Spokane. Bertha said it was a marvelous ride, the scenery was beautiful and they all had a wonderful time. Try that again, Bertha. The Ernest M. Cookes of Marmot Road had as their guests recently their daughter Carloyn and her husband Staff Sgt. Larry Wade o f Fort Ord, Calif. The Wades love the Oregon country so much, that as soon as Larry is out o f the service, next Spring, they plan on moving here. It is always nice to look forward to welcoming newcomers to the area. W ayne H u d d le s o n celebrated his 75th Birthday on July 25. Ten old time friends came out and gave Wayne a surprise party. The food was over flowing, and the party was a huge success. The only sad note, was that it will be W ayne’s last birthday celebration in his mountain home. The Huddlesons have completed negotiations with th e S ta te H ig h w a y D e p a r t m e n t , and have th r ee and-a-half months to move from Brightwood. They are both very sad to have to move from the mountain, but I am sure they will make some visits up here time and again. Our very best wishes to them in their new home. They plan on moving into the Portland area, so they won’t be too far away. Congratulations to Louise Hallam, who is also a July baby. The Lions Club wishes everyone to know that the skating is doing fine, and for those who have been unable to purchase skates, but still wish to skate, a few o f the Lions m em b ers have personally purchased skates for people to u se at th e p a v illio n . Remember, every Tuesday and Thursday night is skating night, and th e skates that are available are free, as the skating is. Take the family and have a ball. Took our grandson and went to the Fair. Even got up the courage to go on one o f the crazy rides with him. Found out he got more scared than I did. It was a weirdy, but we survived. We always enjoy making the rounds of the exhibits. There were many beautiful objects, expecially some o f the pottery work. There was one knit suit, in a pale green, that was exquisite. Looking at it, it was very hard to believe that it had been hand made. Such fine yarn, and such beautiful work. No wonder the maker received a blue ribbon. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cooke o f Marmot Road have received word o f the engagement of their son, Roger. The wedding will be Sept. 20 in Los Angeles. His fiancee is Miss Edna Stoltzfus o f Los Angeles. She is a 1967 graduate o f Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park, Calif, and is currently working as a private secretary. R oger is attending Art Center College o f Design in Los Angeles. He has won several prizes on his art work. In addition to bringing him a cash prize, the latest award winner w i l l a ls o a p p ea r in a supplement to the New York Times. When Roger com pletes his college studies, he plans to move to the mountain with his bride. They both love it up here and wish to return. Another convert.
