Tom Katt, Chapter president, presented over the dinner. Lee Cole is advisor o f the Chapter. Guest speaker Dwayne Sherwood, a nurseryman from Boring, spoke about the national outlook on the nursery business. He also e x p la in e d the advance computering program with which he is associated. Steve Moore received the Beef Award. The Leadership Award w ent to John Erickson, and Curt Meier received the Tractor Driving Award. Dan Castle received the Swine Award, and the Scrapbook Award went to Ken Meier. Curt Meier received the Reporting Aw ard, and Allen Gunderman received the Rabbit Award. Earl Hollenbeck received the Flowericulture Award, and Steve Moore the Scholarship Award. The Star Green Hand Award w ent to Larry Boitano, and Steve Moore received the Star Chapter Farmer Award. The Sandy chapter also received ten new honorary members. The convenience o f opening a can o f vegetable soup versus the job o f preparing soup from fresh vegetables is, o f course, a real consideration fo r today’s busy housewives. I am not suggesting that every time vegetable soup is served that it be from fresh vegetables. H o w e v e r, hom em akers The flavor o f fresh fruits and vegetables can be a real eye opener for many modern housewives. The impact o f c o n v e n ie n c e foods has distracted many housewives away from fresh fruits and vegetables. I f this has happened to you, I hope you w ill “come back” and rediscover that the taste o f cooked fresh fruits and vegetables, as compared to using frozen or canned fruits should not rely entirely on and vegetables, is distinctly canned or dehydrated soups, different. but occasionally treat the fam ily to a vegetable soup with some individuality. M y favorite vegetables for addition to soups are fresh cabbage and parsnips. They really add flavor. Another dish which I enjoy that will add sparkle to your meal is fresh strawberry - rhubarb pie. Chief Petty O fficer Happold is currently assigned to MSTS office, Saigon. The MSTS office in Vietnam , which coordinates more than 95 percent o f all m ilitary cargo shipments to the war zone, was the first command in the 20-year history o f MSTS to receive the award. The 32-year-old Navyman attended Gresham High and Portland State College. He 1 entered the Naval Service in January 1955 and arrived in South Vietnam in September 1968.
