POS shoe Pioneers Submit, 34-7, Year 'Round To Central Hammering Y By Mike Hite So Very Popular Central hammered Sandy into submission 34-7, Friday, with a three touchdown outburst in the second quarter that con tinued Panther domination of Wilco football rivals, Wing Tip Oxfords 195 Steve McElvray and Steve Pyles each scored twice for the second-place Panthers, and quarterback Mike Buss com pleted the only pass he threw, for a touchdown to McElvray for 35 yards, to boost Central’s record to 6-1. Having won four, the Pioneers still have a chance to have their best record since 1959 if they can best Estacada and Molalla in the .next two weeks. • The Panthers were held to just three first downs the whole game, but five interceptions, one which was returned 39 yards to the one, a big 97-yard touch- down'^romp with a^recovered , fumble, by"j4cElvray„and„a 49- * yard T.D. run by Pyles, made the rout inevitable? McElvray’s 97-yard sprint was hotly disputed by Pioneer players and coaches, as two officials standing on the goal line, half-way signaled a T.D. on Don Schneider’s carry , but one would not clarify the touch down without the other, so Schneider was shoved back three yards where he fumbled and McElvray was johnny-on- the-spot. The Pioneers even though they lost last week 34-7 to Central, if you can believe it, actually outplayed the Panthers allow ing them only three firs (downs, but the Panthers were just too explosive. The Rangers were beaten by a sm iliar score of 31-7, so the game should be rated about even, but the Pio neers could make it a veryum - pleasant homecoming for the Rangers with a win. Sandy, 20- Estacada, 14. JESUIT over MOLALLA . . . If this one’s close there’s some thing wrong, as the Crusaders will be tuning up for the state quarterfinals. The Indians do not have much chance but I doubt if they are beaten 66-6 like two years ago. Jesuit, 39; Molalla, 6. SILVERTON over CANBY... The Cougars haven’t scored a win this season and things won’t change this week. The Foxes were drubbed 36-6 by Jesuit last week, but Canby will use this game to tune-up for the Crusaders next week. Silver- ton, 20; Canby, 7. WY’EAST over THE DALLES . . .Tough one to pick, and should be a good game. The Indians looked their bestagainst us, but the Eagles have won more game 3-2. Incidentally, Dallas heads Green Bay 10-7 In the third quarter. Wy’east, 14, The Dalle , 13. CENTRAL over REYNOLDS . . . Both the Lancers and the Panthers even handily last week and should be ready.
