The market, operated by Kak and Sue Wil liam s, has been in Gresham ten years. The store was known as Dahl’s market before the Williams took it over. The new store opened Tuesday, and an open house is planned for the future. The building was completely remodeled for the grocery bus iness and has off-street park ing. Cash Value lip On County Permits Total building permits in Multnomah county for Septem ber reached 251 for a cash value of$4,619,563. It compares with one more permit in Sep tember, 1967 — 252 — atacost of «2,681.521. Single fitmlly residential per mits were nine above last year’s total — 49 compared to 40 in 1967. HOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE received the blue ribbon award for service from United Good Neighbors at a luncheon in the Benson hotel in Portland last Thursday. Showing the award here are George Kurtz, MHCC director of finance, and Jan Allquist, community s e r vices assistant at the college. Kurtz, campus campaign coordinator, submitted a final report from the college which indicated a 300 percent increase over last year in contributions to UGN by college personnel. Kurtz was former district chairman for UGN in Forest Grove, (Outlook Photo) Pvt. 1/c Frank A. Haley, son of Mrs. Grace I. Haley of Rt. 1, Troutdale, recently returned to the 4th Infantry Division base camp near Pleiku, Vietnam. While at base camp for two weeks, Pfc Haley will serve as a cannoneer with 8th Ar tillery battery which provides supporting fires at the base camp. Pvt. 1/c Haley, a member of “ C” Battery, 4th Battalion, 42d Artillery, has been with his unit of a forward fire- base since his arrival in Viet nam in March, 1968. His unit is presently on position near Bam Me Thuot supporting an operation of the Fourth Divi sion’s Second Brigade. ifr i Tim berliners Ask For M o re M em bers Do you like to sing? Hood chapter meets weekly, Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Tucker Maxon Oral Day school, South east 28th and Holgate. The chapter is currently pre paring for the Evergreen Dis trict annual convention for quartets and choruses Oct. 18, 19 and 20 in Spokane, Wash. About 40 from East Multnomah county plan to attend. The group needs 50 members on stage. The Timberliners were se v enth out of 21 entries last year at the convention. Inservice to Call Corbett Teachers Teachers from Secondary Schools in Corbett, Vernonia, Jewell, Concordia, Holy Child of Portland, Cascade Locks, Colton, Gaston, and Tillamook Catholic will be participating in a one day in-service session at Camp Menucha Oct. 22. This is the third in a series of eight regional conferences to be held in the state this fall, sponsored by the Oregon Small Schools program. The Oregon Small Schools program is a federally funded project for the Improvement of the quality of educational in struction in high schools of approximately 200 or fewer students. Troutdale Student To Receive 'Cap' Susan Albin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Albin, PO Box 115, Troutdale, is one of 132 sophomore students at the University of Oregon School of Nursing to receive her cap Friday night, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m. in the traditional candle-light capping ceremony.
