John Bloch, property mana ger for the chain, told the Out look Fred M eyer has no pres- sent plans to build a store on the site. Now a print shop owner, Forbes is author of the book, "D a ys and Ways of old Dam ascus.” H ELEN JARL DENARD Helen Jarl Denard, 18350 SE Baxter, died at a local hos pital Sept. 8, at the age of 57. She was born in Kelso, O re. July 4,1910. She attended school in the G resham -Portland area and was a graduate of Lincoln High school. She attended O re gon State University, and from there taught one year c f high school in Ilwaco, Wash. She then returned to school and graduated from the U of O Medical School. She worked one year for the State Mental Hos pital in Salem. From Salem she went to Tuc son A r iz ., where she worked as a lab technician. She then moved to M arys ville, C a lif., and from there to Washington, D .C ., where she remained about one year. By governmental ap pointment she was sent to New Orleans and on to the Panama Canal Zone where she remained about 3 years. While in the Panama Cana Zone she m arried C .J. Denard. They went to Germ any, where she traveled over most of Europe. Return ing to the G resham -Portland area with her two children, she worked for the Ostopathic Hos pital for 16 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Grange and the Sandy Pioneer Association. Surviving are her two c h il dren; Michael and Linda Denard both of Portland; her mother M rs . Ida Jarl Cornell of Gresh am; her brother and sister Vernie N. Jarl of the Dalles and M rs . M ildred Decker of Sandy. Petty, a one-tim e resident of Sandy and la te r of Portland died following a long Illness Sept. 6 in a Portland Nursing Home. Funeral s e r vices were Tuesday Sept. 10 at the Bateman Funeral Chapel with Interment in Forest Lawn Cem etery. She was born In Iowa Sept. 6, 1883, and received her ed ucation In that area. M rs . Petty was a member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Mazamas. She Is survived by her brother, Clide Haskins, Spo kane; her s is te r, M rs , Edward Cohen of Portland, and one neice M rs , John Grossman of Sherwood. LULA M . FOSTER Services for M rs , Lula M . Foster, a form er resident of the Bluff road area, were held Tuesday in Portland. B u rial followed at Y am hill Pioneer cem etery. M rs . Foster had lived in the Bluff road area from 1937-46 when she and her husband, H. M . Light, op erated Light’ s grocery. Survivors Include a daugh ter and a son. She was 79 and a native of Carton, O re. S h o rt Local C arl Naas has returned to Oregon College of Education early this year, as he is ready to enter practice teaching.
