Hood Community College is Making for approval of a $6 H million bond issue al a Jan. 20 special elec lion. And it seems to ns that none of the previous College elections all passed handily have stirred up so much discussion. Why’’ Apparently there are two reasons: (I) The $5GS.75u the college paid for its new 175-acre campus site at Kane and Stark roads and (2) A feeling among some of the voters that the college is "moving too fast." We don’t agree with either argu ment but it’s incumbent u | mhi us to examine them. Most of t h e discussion centers around the Colleges purchase at $3.25n per acre of the Stark - Kane tract. Some people say this is "way K mi much." that the College could and should have obtained land at a much lesser price. But let’s look at the facts. College personnel examined about loo possible locations; prices ran all the way from $1.500 to $12.000 per acre. A number of real estate men in the area were involved in the search. Here are a few sample com ments from them: "1 think the College was very, very fortunate to get the property at that price. Acreage that cheap usually is snap|»ed up overnight. 1 don’t think the price is at all out of line." "I think the College got a good buy. especially considering all the road frontages." "That’s not a bad price at all; it is a good location and w ith sewer and water available, the property could be worth even more. The College al- i SALLY'S ALLEY leady has done a lot for out area and it’ll do more in the future One realtor, and one only, didn’t agree. He said. "Prices for acreage are inflated all over East County and I think the College paid an inflated price The College already has gained one unexpected bonus from the property . a gravel vein worth from $75.000 to $l«l use in Korea aid Indonesia.” Persons wishing tucontribute their cards to the project are asked to leave them in a box at the Grokett Jewelry, or at Connell’s Sioe Shop, 204 Loop Highway.
