Sandy Post, Sandy, Oregon
April 14, 1964
People At Work
Tough luck has plagued Sandy
high school students this year,
in their efforts to raise funds
for the AFS exchange student
program. Take a recent car
wash sponsored by students:
one of them accidentally nicked
a parked vehicle while moving
another auto around. Damage
to that auto was far more than
students realized from the car
wash.
Specifically, about >90
damages was done.
Now to be constructive: I
hereby offer >5 to start a fund
to repair the damaged auto. If
any readers feel inclined, the
Post will act as the sponsor
and money - collecting point
for this fund. How about it,
anonymous donors?
There has
been generated
considerable mirth from
an
item tn last week's Post. The
item was a short '‘filler” that
gave directions
for making
"quickie”
cocoa.” So much
mirth from was generated at
the Clackamas County Bank,
Dolores Craig whipped up her
own recipes
for "quickie”
breakfast aids. You will find
the recipe in a letter to the
editor on this page. Read, and
enjoy the satire, then try It,
will you?
The ML Hood Pow-Wowers
have a neat brochure circula
ting
these days, advertising
their annual Spring Frolic, golf
and dinner at Bowman’s Mt.
Hood Golf course, Saturday,
April 16. There'll be a nine-
hole Mixed couples tournament,
with tee-off time set for 3 p.m.
A social hour begins at 6:30
p.m., and dinner at 7:30. Re
servations are necessary, and
in Sandy tickets are available
from Ivan Barker and Howard
Berger. End of commercial. .
PRIDE IN WORKMANSHIP is not dead, and here Merle Tolson smoothes the newly
poured concrete slab at Janz Fruitland, now Plantland. Bob Pullen and Denny Grey
along with Mr. Tolson have taken advantage of the fine weather to build additional
display space for their expanding business.
Alan Baxter, a log truck dri
ver for Larimore and Olson,
had a startling
experience
Tuesday afternoon
when the
chain on the front bunk broke,
and he began scattering polos
on highway 26 near Firwood
function. The truck remained
upright, as did the trailer, but
it took all afternoon to reload
the poles on another truck.
While getting a picture, 1
met Sgt. Cutsforth of the Clack
amas county
sheriff's office
for the first time. Also on the
scene was Sandy PoUce Chief
Fred Punzei, who helped with
the clean-up and direcUng of
traffic.
\oters are often swayed in
their thinking by a glamour
undertaking, such as the pro
posed tri-county stadium now
under study. There are a lot
of reasons why this is a good
idea, but I believe professional
sports should pay their own
way, and that Includes build
ing their own stadium. When
a football team owner, or a
baseball team owner can put
our >100,000 to sign a single
player, surely they can get the
backing to build a stadium for
this money-maker to perform
in.
Vern Atherly is one of six
New York Life agents in the
northwest area, asked to take
part In a three-day panel dis
cussion at Seattle early next
week. A former schoolteacher,
he is also interesting In getting
on the school board in his dis
trict, so we wish him luck in
both Instances.

We Thought
a Lot
As long as we’re being ed

zymurgy. This is applied chem
istry with the process of fer
mentation, such as in brewing.
So a brew-master is really a
zymergytologist. Mr. Blitz, are
you listening?

For an added touch of ele
gance we used "toast” with
this delicious drink. You might
like to try this yourself. Re
move 1 or 2 slices of bread
from wrapper ( can be white
or wheat), arrange neatly in
toaster, push down lever; when
"toast” pops up you may but
ter it or serve it plain on
attractive (or crum ny) dishes.
There are any number of
variations to this quick ex

passed down from generation

beautiful, so we may see a whole ||
About 30 Interested persons
attended the Welches school
board meeting Tuesday even
ing, including the Shooper and
myself. After disposing of the
routine business, school board
members sat back and listened
as their constituents took the
floor in quite orderly fashion,
and talked of their concern for
the education of their children,
and the kind that is being of
fered in their school.
In an almost electrically-
charged atmosphere, the for-
board members and the chair
man, questions that should have
been asked in an executive ses
sion, where he could
have
gotten specific answers, and
where school board members
would have been safe from any
possible legal entanglements.
