Double-Minded Representative
In the latest “Green Letter" which
passed across otir desk last week we
noted an article entitled “Th«* Won
derful World of noulde-Thiuk
At
first glance it didn't seem to I»«* much
hut th»* humor of the incidence laded
as one continue<i to read.
Representative Edith Green's news
letter stated "On Sept. 20 the Hous»*
of Representatives approved a Reso
lution sponsored by a Representative
from Alabama which, in effect, de
clares tin* right ofanj Western Hemi
sphere nation tin |>articular. of
course, the l uited States! to inter
ven»* with armed force in th** affairs
of any American nation (without re
quest from that nation) when I’om-
munist subversion is threatened."
Like we said, at first this sounds
like a reasonable matter. Hut in reali
ty it is utterly ridiculous. For as Rep.
Green comments the House has ac-
mail? gone on record as approving
the very invasion of even this coun
try by the armed forces of other Wes
tern hemisphere nations if they—not
(his nation Ixdieve the L’.S. is threa
tened by Communist aggression.
What fakes th»* cake, as she writes,
is that the same Alabama Kep. in
1963 sponsored a piece of legislation
to wit: “Prohibit the use of the Na
tional Guard or Armed Forces to en
force Eederal laws. Federal court or-
ders. cr to suppress domestic violence
in any State, except upon the request
of th»* legislature or governor of the
For the State, particularly
Alabama in this case, a formal re
quest is expected . . . for a Western
hemisphere nation invade at will.
We wontier if the Alabama gent,
and his like-minded cohorts, see dou
ble when they look in a mirror, too.
A bad case of fumblitis
proved the downfall for the San
dy Frosh squad last Thursday as
they were downed 27-14 by Fre
mont. The score was tied at
halftime 14 all.
Fumbles on three separate
occasions brought an end to
drives with the Frosh gridders
deep in enemy territory.
Scoring for the local team
Included a four yard run by
LX>n Schneider and a puss play
from JimSItger tr. Tom Scales
which netted 50 yards. Both
extra point attempts were good
accounting for the 14 points put
across by the Sandy eleven.
