Six fum bles and two pass interceptions proved disastrous to the local players. Don Hutson of the JV’s scored the lone touchdown for the Pio neers as lie galloped 60 yards down the field and Into the end zone standing up. The score came on a reverse hand off to Hutson which caught the host squad unawares. Point after touchdown attempt was unsuccessful. It came during the first quarter of play. Helping lead the way for Hut son’s scoring effort was David Knoll who provided excellent downfield blocking as he up ended three Indian JV defend ers. After that the local team couldn’t seem to pick up any appreciative momentum when Big Turkey Feed Set Saturday By Eastern Star It’s a big turkey-eat’en feed set for this Saturday by the lo cal Eastern Star at the Sandy Masonic Hall. CLASSIFIED ADS PAY The Dalles To Test Pioneer "11" Friday The Dalles Indians, newest competitor in the Wilco League, will travel here Friday night to test the Pioneer pigskin war riors who tasted the sweet sav or of victory for the first time this season In last week’s Es tacada encounter. Game time is 8 p.m. on the local field. While Sandy finally hit the victory trail the visiting In dians will be out to find their first scalp since joining the Wilco ranks. In two contests the Dalles have lost to Park rose 12-0 and last week to highly-touted Reynolds 40-20. Once again, the Pioneers will have their hand full* attempt ing to corral their visiting ri vals. The Dalles is a big and fast squad according to scouting reports. Last Fri day they fumbled four times within their own 20 yard line resulting in four Reynolds re coveries and four scores a- gainst them. Checking the Indian roster shows they will have ten ex perienced lettermen bolstering their line-up. Two of these let termen are quarterbacks with Jim Bailey currently edg ing out two year letterman and senior Phil Wagonblast for the starting post In this position. Wagonblast Is considered a very good quarterback himself so the local defensive unit will have their work cut out for them watching these two lead their team’s attack. Other backfield letter winners will include Half back Doug Hattenhaur and Full back Chris Jones, both hard runners. Sandy’s forward wall will play at a distinct weight disadvant age Friday as The Dalles line averages In the neighborhood of 200 pounds. On defense they sport one of the best defensive linebackers In the league. He is Eric Ackerman, a 181 pound senior. Since they are a new mem ber to this league it Is neces sary to check their record last year as a member of the In termountain League. Here they were second with a seven win and two loss record. Head coach at The Dalles Is Tom Harmon who is In his third year at the helm there. Expected line - up for the Pioneer eleven this Friday will be the sdme as last week with the possibility of two excep tions. One question mark that could hurt the hometowners a great deal is Fullback Brock Jackley. Jackley Injured his left elbow in the Estacada contest. It has been quite swollen but is responding to whirpool baths and treatment. By presstime on Wednesday it was still a touch- and-go situation whether Coach Ken Brown would be able to count on his suiting up. The other starting assign ment is at quarterback. Last Friday Mike Nelson handled most of the signal calling chores with Jack Scales see ing limited action due to an in jury. Brown said he couldn’t say for sure which of the pair would be at the starting slot at gametime. He added that both were performing quite well at the job considering nei ther is an experienced quarter back. It’s going to be a tough game and our guys will be in there fighting all the way,” was the football coaches final comment. Hood Lanes’ bowling proprietor Lou Langlois last Thursday night during Men’s Leagu*com petition as he garnered 26 strikes In three games to end up with a 763 series. That hap pens to be the highast series bowled in the state thus far this year in sanctioned league play. Langlois, who bowls for Brewster's Family Store, was a "dead-eye dick” as he rolled strike after strike. His three game scores went like so: 254- 245-264 for a total of 763. This is the first sanctioned 700 series ever to be bowled at the local lanes, as well as be ing the highest score amassed by any bowler in any bowling lanes in the state of Oregon. For Langlois it brings his total of 700 and over sanc tioned series to three. He has been bowling for 15 years and for the past two and half years has been here In Sandy oper ating ML Hood Lanes. He is a member of Oregon Journal All Stars and North west Professional Bowlers Assn. Last year his blue book average was 202 which was good enough to rank him seventh in the state. For the evening the bowling proprietor helped pace his team to four wins boosting their rec ord to 12 wins and no losses in league play. The team series amounted to 3049. After switching ends of the field for the start of the sec ond quarter Sandy was able to advance the ball to the 19 yard line of Estacada before giving up possession. Play seesawed In the middle of the field until near the end of the second quarter. At this time Sandy’s David Jackley kicked from his own 37 yard line on fourth down. The bell was taken by Mike Allen of Estacada at his 35 who ramb led through the Pioneer de fense to the Sandy 20 yard line where Ron Heckle drug him down from behind. The Pioneer defense forced the Rangers to give up the ball on the 19 when a fourth down pass play from Mcllhenny to Terry Bristow only garnered one yard. The win over Estacada is ti>e Pioneers first taste of vic tory against the visitors since 1956. It is the first win of the football season and netted San dy their first victory in Wilco league action this year. They now stand at one win and one loss. It was a hard-fought contest with both teams playing hard and wanting the victory. In the final quarter of play Estacada tried vainly to overcome thair two touchdown deficit. A pass play combination of John Mc llhenny to Paul Holiday con nected on several occasions but Sandy defenders kept Quar terback Mcllhenny hard- pressed between completions smothering him for consider able losses of yardage. Scoring Sandy’s first touch down of the evening was Jerry McLain, right halfback. He raced around his own left end from the three yard stripe for the TD. For the point after touchdown the Pioneers lined up for a place kick but the ball was centered straight to Quar terback Jack Scales who threw a pass into the waiting arms of Ron Williams in the end zone. The counters put Sandy ahead for 7-0. Estacada was unable to pick up consistent yardage following the kick-off after touchdown. Six plays later they kicked to Sandy’s Dale Phelps who re turned the ball to his own 35 yard line.
