6 TH« SANDY (Or*.) ROST Thura., July «, IMS («ec. 1) Scenes From Hood-Land Happenings 'Alary, Mary" Performance By Hie SNOOPER “YOU CAN’T PLEASE EV- ALL OF THE ERYBODY TIME”, or words to that ef fect, is an old adage that “comes-home-to-roost'* mors often than not I At least in my case. I certainly don’t claim to be an authority on human nature, or anything else for that mat ter, but I am “tuned-In” enough to realise the truth of that adage. Even so, I find myself In a very “blue-mood” when I am faced with words from the “fault-finders”! May be I’m the type that bruises easily. I refer to the photo of“yours truly” on the front page of the Oregonian last Friday. It seems that there are those who took exception to the photo because I was not the one who trimmed the tree. (The tree was trim med by Esther Lymp and Rosie Avery who were not among the complalnersl) When I saw Florence Jancan at the Lions breakfast, I told her that her “turn” was over, that It was my “turn” again. It was buzzed around last week, "How come Florence Jancan was ‘Queen of Brightwood’ and got to cut the ribbon to open the new bridge — when she didn't even live In Bright wood?” I loved Florences’ re tort, She said, “I always look ÄLRAO IRSURâkCf VU 7 2861 Pho n BOWL MERCHANDISE MART Monday • Wednesday Prize« for Everyone ROCKWOOD LANES 11500 SE Stark MO 5-8975 at It thia way honey, as long as they’re talking about me somebody else is spared.” I wish I could be as gracious as Florence, but I guess I was hit with too much this past week. The truth of the matter is simple — Florence and I suffer from the same prob lem — when someone asks us to do something — we do It. If being obliging is a fault- then we are guilty. When George Staggs came from Portland to Hood - Land last November, little did he know what was in store for him. He came here as manager of the Barlow Trail Inn and Is now buying the business. On the 19th of July he will take as his bride Hood - lander Lor- rain Goodson and become the father of four children. Lor rain has worked at the Alpine Hut in Rhododendron for the past five years. She met George while helping Florence Jancan at the Barlow. Their first date was to attend the Hoodland Women’s Club Sweet heart Ball last February. After the wedding at the Cha pel of the Hills a reception will be held at the Barlow Trail Inn. The couple will live on Faublon Rd. Between Zig Zag and Rhody. Jay and George Porter of Bend spent the week - end with their friends the Don Aver ys of Wemme. The Averys celebrated their 26th annlver- । sary on July 3rd. Katherine Wohlford of I Brightwood is enjoying a visit with her son John who Is home from attending college Ln Cal ifornia. The Merrill Buck family has returned to Hood - Land, as usual, to spend the summer. Their many friends look for ward to their arrival each year. Like many other summer re sidents, the Bucks plan to live here full - time when their chlldrea are out of school. It was nice to see Betty and George Covell at the Lions breakfasL They are another FREE ELECTRIC DRYER . with purchase of this washer or equivalent couple who will be living here full - time in a year or so. Dorothy and Harry Jackson entertained guests from Port- land, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Gold, by taking them to the Lions breakfast at Wemme. Everyone seems to enjoy the annual breakfast and ham/tur key shoot sponsored by the ML Hood Lions Club. The turn - out for this affair seems to Increase each year. A record number of "shoots” took place this year and the Lions can credit Kay Randell for working so diligently on their behalf. Kay even went through the phone book ahead of time to Une up people for the shoots. While chatting with George Mills, I noticed Moon Mullen had removed his apron and was wearing a pa’r of cut - offs. Mr. Mills clued me In on the reason they were so short and raggedy. He said," Moon didn’t have any scissors, so he poured salt around the legs of his pants, hung them on the clothes line and let the Deer chew off the legs to get the salL” (I admit to being gullible, but even 1 didn't swallow that one.) Speaking of Moon reminds me to mention that he feels his collection of earrings Is quite complete. He decided to let the hole in his ear heal, rather than trying to start a new fad on the mountain. Moon "thanks” all of you who have given him earrings, (he even received them anonymously through the mall) but he has all he wants. Please - no more earrings for Moon.
