An itland of sand, rocks, scattered logs exist up and down the Sandy river as an after
math of the December flood. In the foreground is the channel dug out by the raging
torrents of water while the Original channel is just forward of the homes. Large por
tions of the banks were washed away leaving the two homes teetering. House in the
middle is located next to the Koch Lumber Company shop at Brightwood. Years ago
it was used as a dance hall.

"See, this new box works fine," exclaims Hal Dudley, postmaster at Rhododendron,
to Georgia Vermaas, postal clerk, in picture at left. On the right is a view of the new,
larger postal quarters which observed "open house" last Saturday. A number of per
sons visited the new facility which has more than doubled its old space. (Post photo)

People may wonder why
a fellow like me winds up in
Hoodland — in business for
himself. I hear there are dis
coverers, inventors, outdoors
men, etc., that come here to
work and live. My reasons
for coming are many and
varied. Next week I'll tell
you something about them.
