I am sure he never met any of the log trucks on these narrow roads, or he would be too r * 1 scared to write anything. Just doesn’t like to see the country grow. I am sure he would like to keep our outdoors as uncluttered as possible, but I would rather have good roads then have the nar row ones cluttered up with dead bodies. Nuff said. CHARGE ft! Bertha MacDonald has sold her home In Brightwood, and has pur chased a trailer house. She will move her new mobile home onto her other lot in Brightwood. Spent an evening with Peggy and Claude Gudge, the genial owners of the Mt. Hood Cabins, on Lolo Pass Road. Had a wonderful visit, and had my faith renewed again, that the nicest people live up here. Found out they had two fires, a few weeks ago. Quite a bit of damage to one cabin, now repaired, and minor damage to another. They showed me through the units, and what lovely cabins they are. Think I will spend a few days there myself. They have purchased Gadwood’s home, on Lolo Pass Road, and are busy painting and fixing it all up. New furnishings, a complete renovation job. Bert Meskimen in the hospital in traction, and Rose Reick is keeping her shop open for her. We all wish her a very speedy recovery. Jennie Welch home from the hospital recovering from major surgery. Wonderful to have her home, and hope she is as good as always in very short order. Anne Carpenter home after sev en days in the hospital, and as busy as ever. She’s still wearing her hospital name band on her wrist, says it will insure her of not going back. Hope it works. People in and out this past week, and wonderful to see them all. Harold and Dorothy Kelly, form erly of Welches, now of Boise, in with Mr. and Mrs. C. White of New York. Knew Mr. White way back in the good old school days. Harold is moving some of- his mother’s stuff out of her ex home, that now belongs to the Tom Hollenbecks. Nels and Clara Nelson, with guests from California, up a vis iting on the Mountain. Nels was formerly with the Forest Service at Zig Zag. Clara is the former Clara Gauman, both with many friends in these parts. Maxine and Walter Rust in to see us, from Anchorage. Maxine’s father was one of the partners that built the Mt. Hood Golf Course. Rusty is with the Bureau of Land Management in Anchorage. He will retire in five years, and they plan to move back to Port land. Wonder what the highway depart ment was thinking when they put a sign, Bowman Road, on the Arrah Wanna Road. The people of Arrah Wanna are wondering what happened to their place, that used to was. They seem to be trying to rid us of Welches, and Arrah Wanna. I’m afraid they will have quite a group of irate citizens on their hands if It keeps on. Cut out a letter to the Editor, from the Oregonian, and am writ ing part of what it says here: “If you drive northerly out of Zig Zag on Truman Road you will shortly come to where they are creating a wide highway and spending lots of tax money un necessarily on new bridges etc. I say that because there was al ready a perfectly good logging and forest access road there. Why are those millions being spent on the Hood River Loop road beyond Government Camp? A perfectly beautiful two-lane road through the forest and along the stream already existed, and now it seems “they” are creating something like a four-lane super highway.”- I can’t Imagine what kind of a car MINERALIZED 1 7 ^By NELL HOWE Hood-Land Reporter Reporter WORK SHOE SPECIAL !
