8 The Sandy (Ore.) Post Thursday, July 9, 1964 (Sec. 1) Corbett Brings Campaign To Sandy A'arc /> fo Sen. Alfred H. Corbett, democratic candidate for the Ore gon Secretary of State, talked with members of the Sandy City Council last Monday at 7 p.m. He did not stay for the regular meeting which began at 8 because of other ap pointments he had. As an example of his busy sche dule, he had already that day vis ited five nursing homes, cam paigned in Estacada, and been guest of honor at a luncheon and coffee hour. Of the many topics discussed with him at the meeting, perhaps the most pressing centered around the crisis Sandy and many other small Oregon towns face in sei- WALRAD INSURANCE AGENCY Phone MU 7-2861 SANDY SAW SHOP Quality Htauonable Work Repair and Sharpen Saws, Lawn Mowers, Knives, and Scissors 1/1 MU» E or Head, oo Hwy. 14 Phoue MU 7-IM« SANDY RADIATOR SHOP Complete Radiator Repair Overnight Service Guaranteed Work Phon* MU 7-4595 after 4 p.m. recently bought and which may take several years to be developed by the city alone. Senator Corbett thought that about the only way the state could help such local enterprises would be through the state-sponsored youth work camps. These camps are made up of boys who are either actual or po tential school drop-outs and del inquents. Other than in this way, Senator Corbett explained, the state would not help develop an area for local use--unless that area were of such scenic or recreational value that it would benefit a large portion of the state’s population. ection and hiring of qualified pol ice officers. It was asked whether lists of state policemen who are about to retire could be made available to the towns, and Senator Corbett said he would look into the mat ter. Such policemen, it was felt, would not only be expert in their field, but they would also be, because of the rigorous nature of their life, quite physically able to perform well in a small town, even though of retirement age. Another problem discussed was the getting of state aid in devel- oping local parks, notable the park site which the city of Sandy has Jaycettes Meet Community Presbyterian Church The monthly meeting of the Mt. Hood Jaycettes was held July 8 at the home of Mrs. George Stav ros. Final preparations were made for the "Pizza Parlor” to be held during the Gayway Street Dance July 11-12. All varieties of pizza will be sold Saturday and Sunday at the gaily decorated booth. Members were pleased to learn of the arrival of a 6 pound 12 1/2 ounce Jaycette member, Lorri Kay, born July 1 to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Perkins. After the meeting was adjourn ed refreshments were served and a gay time was had by all mak ing candles for the "Pizza Par lor.” Sunday School 9:45 A.M. Morning Service« Il A.M.
