If you are a college senior, you may apply for a commission as a Reserve Officer with the U.S. Coast Guard. The next Of ficer Candidate School class starts Sept. 13. The Officer Candidateschool is a 17-week training program conduct ed at Yorktown, Va. The curri- colum covers courses in leader ship, navigation, seamanship, communications, ordnance and gunnery, damage control, anti submarine warfare, military jus tice and Coast Guard operations. As an officer candidate you will be able to specify the kind of duty and location you desire upon graduation. Assignments are made on the basis of your expressed desires, and training, consistent with the needs of the service. A large variety of assignments is available throughout the world. Since the Coast Guard has only about 3,000 officers on active duty each officer is an important mem ber of the team. It also means that you may have a chance to asume command responsibility early in your career. College seniors desiring to ob tain additional Information regard ing the Coast Guard Officer Can didate School program should con tact Coast Guard Officer, 618 2nd Ave., Seattle (98104), Wash. Card of Thanks We wish to thank our kind friends and neighbors for their acts of love and sympathy during our recent loss of husband and father. Mrs. H. N. Hagen and family. H-22 (By a local practicing physician) Unlike many parasites, pin worms are not limited to rural areas or to the poor. They are found in all economic classes. As one text puts it, . .even in the seats of the mighty.” No other helminth (worm) parasite has such extensive distribution. Children are more commonly affected than adults. It is not uncommon for both to harbor pin worms without noticeable sym- toms. This Is why it is necessary to treat all member of the family at the same time, rather than just one child. The most common complaint of infected person is itching in the region of the anus caused by migrating female worms. These come out at night to lay their eggs -- about 11,000 apiece. The eggs are tiny and light and have been found under finger nails, in dust from floors, picture frames, curtains and bedding. It is easy to see why they are able to infect the whole family. Under favorable conditions the eggs may live two weeks, but, fortunately for us, they survive only a few hours when it is warm and dry. When eggs are accidentally eaten, they hatch and live in the intestine, usually quite peacefully, presum ably feeding on our food rather than on us. The best method of diagnosis is to use a Scotch tape swab, A piece of tape two inches long is placed over a tongue depressor, sticky side up. This Is pressed firmly around the anus region, preferably first thing in the morn ing and definitely before bathing. The tape is then stuck to a glass slide and eggs can be seen under a microscope. The adult worms are less than one-half inch long and can be seen without mag nification. There are two prescription medications which are quite ef fective. Two courses of treatment We wish to thank our many friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved wife and mother, and also Rev Tripplet for his con soling words during my late be reavement. Mr Charles W. Adams and Family. A-22p are often necessary, as reinfec tion is difficult to avoid with the most strenuous cleaning pro grams. Specific instructions are given with treatment. Too Late to Classify We wish to thank all of our friends and relatives for the kind expressions of sympathy, for the beautiful floral offer ings, for the gifts for the me morial fund and also all kind ness shown during the loss of our beloved parents, Mr. and Mrs James Gallant The Gallant family.
