Sharon Homsley, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Odell Homsley, Sandy,
has been appearing at Springer’s
Ballroom and on the4'Lazy S Cor­
ral" heard Saturdays on KLIQ
and KRDR. Sharon, who sings under
the name of Sharon Kaye, has
been termed "the newest singing
sensation in the northwest” by
Charlie Hanna, Portland colum-'
nist.
Sharor, a freshman at Sandy
high school, has two younger bro­
thers and one sister, who is a
junior. Sharon sings in the Mixed
Glee Club and plays the trumpet
in the high school Show Band.
Susan Duff has been named
1964 Betty Crocker Homemaker
of Tomorrow for Sandy Union
high school. Susan achieved the
highest score here in a written
homemaking examination taken
by senior girls throughout the
country on Dec. 3. and now be­
comes eligible for one of 102
scholarships totaling $110,000.
Her paper has been entered
with those of other school win­
ners in the state in compet­
ition tor the title. State Home­
maker of Tomorrow. The win­
ner of this honor will receive
a $1,500 scholarship from Gen­
eral Mills, Inc., sponsor of the
annual program. The second-
ranking girl in the state will
receive a $500 educational
grant. The school of the state
winner will be awarded a comp­
lete set of the Encyclopaedia
Britannica by Encyclopaedia
Britannica, Inc.
Late in April, the first-place
winners from each of the 50
states and the District of Col­
umbia, together with school ad­
visors, will gather in Colon­
ial Williamsburg, Va., to start
an expense-paid educational
tour of the East. The week-
long tour, also including Wash-
ington, D- C., and Ne* York
City, will culminate with the
naming of the 1964 Betty Cro­
cker All-American Homemaker
of Tomorrow. Chosen on the
basis of original test score,
plus personal observation and
interviews during th» tour, she
will have her
scholarship
increased to $5,000. Grants of
second-, third-, and fourth­
place winners will become
$4.000, $3,000 and $2,000, re­
spectively.
